Brendan Shanahan has a sense of humor:

Yeah, I paid $30 to see the Wheaties. Aces of a game, too. It was the series winner against Calgary.

I'm sure the $15 tickets are only to fill the nosebleeds, but still...yikes.

For reasons not clear even to me, I decided to start playing Eastside Hockey Manager again. Getting the current day rosters working proved to be too much hassle, so I decided to relive the majesty of 2002, back when the Leafs were at least passable. Darcy Tucker broke Peter Bondra's wrist, put him out for the year. Six game ban; which was irritating, because I'd just dealt Domi to Tampa because I was fed up of him bitching about ice time. It'd be a Shanaban, except Shanahan is still playing. Tucker, Corson and Green have been brutalising people.

Those were the days. Now, it's the only way the Leafs are going to get mentioned this time of year.

¬_¬

EDIT: Tuckerwatch continues: in a game vs. Tampa Bay, Darcy got another three games for beating the shit out of the same guy three times. Leafs go on to lose three straight, with an injury to Captain Gary Roberts in LA in the last game. Leafs win the next four after Tucker returns, without Roberts. Is Darcy Tucker my key player?!

As much as I enjoy mocking the Bluserpoints (ha!) for being boring as shit, this third period has been incredible. MOAR. Especially if MOAR means the Kings winning.

All I had to do was change the date in a text file after getting the game going, but we might be on different versions.

Oilers have won 3 cups in a row of course. Calgary became more gloriously shit after Iginla and Kiprusoff retired than even I dared dream.

I'm not upset at how the Blues played, as it reminded me of the 1st game of the Sharks series. Play a very solid game, marred by a couple lapses on D.

I'm not gonna call King a dirty player, as I thought it was clearly a reaction play. It sucks, and he should be suspended, but I'm not gonna make more out of it then it was.

However, the 2 instead of 5 and Game was an AWFUL call.

The Blues also shouldn't have played Petro, as it now looks like he's got a concussion, and might have had something to do with the shortie.

If Petro is healthy, this series will be awesome. If not, might be quick.

I think that's all there is, but I couldn't find which text file. Possibly I was just being stupid. Maybe I should have just played with a bunch of 12 year olds.

Did I just seriously hear the Flyers PA man use the phrase "The #1 ranked anthemist in the NHL"? Much laughter.

They are trying to say this is all rust with the Devils out playing Philly. The reality is that it's been a long time now sinxe they had to breakdown a team who actually plays defense. The Devils are a terrible matchup just for that reason.

I'm on the fence about that but it looks like Philly are getting their legs now. Interesting to see if Jersey can hang with them, but I suspect not. Brodeur is really not that much better than Bryzgalov at this point, though Bryz got a lot more press for his bad stretches this year.

Kovalchuk is clearly messed up with a dreaded lower body injury, which does his playoff rep no favors. He basically was taking one stride tops in the last game vs. Florida.

I'm way behind, watching on PVR but this isn't Philadelphia at all in the first half or so. No legs, no emotion, can't connect more than two passes in a row. Devils are playing okay, but it had more to do with Philly being so crap.

Edit: haha, who let the beached whale on the ice for that JVR goal?

I'm gonna be honest here. I don't think any of the 4 teams in the East are as good as St.Louis, Nashville, or LA. Maybe the Rangers, but Philly has too many holes in their game a team can pick apart.

I don't think any of those teams could suffocate Philadelphia's offense completely. Plus, the physicality in the west is on a different level than the east, so they'll be fresher if they were to make it to the final.

Another thing, there ain't a player in all of the west like #28 in orange. God, I hope the Flyers win the cup and win it 4 so dumb dumb GMs look to them instead of LA/NSH/STL for inspiration.

Why does Brodeur keep passing the puck to Philly? He might have tried it a half dozen times in this game already. Really weird for him.

The funny thing is LA was supposed to be Philly west but they stunk really bad at that so they brought in a new coach to go the other way.
