Kinda funny, because Pantera is such an overrated metal band for me (they had a couple of good albums and that's about it).

I thought they were great when I didn't actually listen to metal but the deeper I dig the more they feel like a gateway band that got me in as opposed to something I'd actually reach for now. But they got a lot of people in the door at least.

There's a ton of hip hop on this list I haven't heard, on the flipside. MC Chris is Dead has an album cover that just screams being up my alley.

Here's my ballot.  It looks like roughly 47 off my list of 98 made it.

BUT some of the BSides are wayyyy better than some tracks that made the cut.
If you wanna rec some, that'd be grand. I have a lot of time for certain RHCP.

they sound better than every monotonous death metal band in this countdown.
How many of those were there?

Kinda funny, because Pantera is such an overrated metal band for me (they had a couple of good albums and that's about it).  I mean, if you can't see how something like Soilent Green's A Deleted Symphony for the Beaten Down absolutely schools their best stuff, then you just aren't looking hard enough.  Leave that Lamb of God nonsense alone and check out some really good records like that one.  I'll send you the album when I send you your gear I grab in Poland.
I dunno dude. I like to think I look pretty hard at my heavy music. ;)

I loved Sewn Mouth Secrets, as a kind of 'just Pantera's heavy bits' record. I don't think they ever touched the best Pantera stuff.

It's interesting to read the post about Pantera as a gateway metal band, because I've known a lot of people who go through the Pantera phase. Me? The older and more 'mature' I get, the more I love those 1994-96 albums. The band is actually under-rated among people who don't live in the southern states now.

Emeralds, Dillinger Escape Plan, Skullflower,
First quarter 2010 songs, UFC 111, Ke$ha...

One of the songs I put up, Body Of Water, is a B-Side. They're all on YouTube already so no need recording. The joy of internetz.

This is my favorite track from the album.  Give it a shot.  I can't believe it's 11 years old, so it ain't exactly new.  Eff, I'm old.

I liked it, way better than Lamb Of God.  Very intense stuff, thats perfect for lifting weights.  Thanks man.

I'm just gonna hunt down some more Pantera concerts I think, I just got a DVD from a 97 show in Philly that has a sick songlist, I can't wait to watch this later.
Spoiler

I'm also starting to think i'm barking up the wrong tree here, and maybe i'm just not a metal head beyond Pantera stuff and perhaps I should go look for some new electronica or something else instead.  I suppose it's all starting to sound monotonous to me since I'm not as angry and aggressive as I used to be unless i'm working out, so calmer music with lighter singing seems to be more up my alley lately.   A friend just put me on that John Mayer Continuum CD, that's some good relaxing soulful music there.

I'd have done so if I remembered to send in a ballot.

I saw them open for Weezer in 2002, and they were great live.

One thing I will say about this countdown is that there was a LOT of metal on the list, but way less than I thought there would be and a lot of things got more support than I thought would.

By The Way getting 5 votes was weird since even RHCP fans rate it lower and I believe Bleed America (excellent power pop record) got 5-7 votes too. Kudos on a varied musical taste everyone.

Not bad. After my 80s 1 and 2 were the board's 1 and 2, I feared a complete reverse in this one. However, the top 3 being three of my top 10, and 7 of my top 20 in the overall top 20 is nice.

I am finally dropping in to say neither Gorrilaz album making the top 50 is a crime, and I will spend the rest of my life finding you and personally punishing you all till the end of my life.

You have been warned.
