The Marlins have un-retired the #5 for Logan Morrison.  5 was the only number they'd retired and it was for their founder who died during the Winter Meetings before the inaugural 1993 season.  LoMo requested it because it was George Brett's number and Morrison's recently deceased father told Logan to pattern his game after Brett.

It's like the baseball Gods know how annoying Gonzalez is and are just trolling the shit out of him. 4/$36 is also pretty good, but still a huge risk because you just don't know how this guy is going to turn out against major league pitching. He's also 26, which is a bit old for getting acclimated to AAA/Major League pitching, but hopefully Billy knows what he's getting into.

Well fuck this place. It took 144 characters or less to kill all the buzz we'd built up in this thread. "We take pro wrestling seriously" sounds like code for Davey Richards vs. Davey Richards in a Davey Richards on a pole match. Inside a Steel Davey Richards.

You know after looking at more videos, and reading some articles I'm coming away with the idea that he might be a bust. *Going into Cubs fan mode* Now that Soler kid he's the real deal. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I can't help you if you don't understand why Soler is a better prospect.

Whatever, the Chicago Theos aren't getting him anyway, since it's likely going to be another mystery California team.

I have no idea what Chicago has to do with anything here, but whatever.

Updated to add, "Oh, really?"

4/$27.5, but Soler's service time (the 4 years) doesn't start until he makes it to the bigs. It's believed that $10 mil or the $27.5 mil is a signing bonus. I'm not thrilled with giving that much money up front to someone so young, but he's already rated as the #1 prospect in the system, and is reported to have more upside than those about to break into the bigs. Also, it's great that the service time doesn't begin until he makes the major league team. Pretty good deal by Hoyer and Epstein, despite the signing bonus.

EDIT: Forgot to add that this only happens after MLB allows him to become a FA.

So the Cardinals have signed Andres Serrano

I'm surprised, given the whole "dipping religious figures in urine and pohtographing them" thing...but I guess 95 on the gun is 95 on the gun.

[note: This may be a different Andres Serrano]
