Yeah, we did the Down's test too. Got a shit-tonne of stuff to do around the house, including a basement that needs re-finishing after getting flooded out. Busy times ahead.

My wife and I went for our 12-week scan today. We've been trying for a baby for more than 2 years, and, due to various health issues, I think that both of us, without ever saying it out loud, were thinking that it might never happen for us. So far, everything is going great, and I'm very much in the 'wanting-to-stop-random-people-in-the-street-to-tell-them-I'm-going-to-be-a-father' stage.

another one on the new papa train! WOOHOO!

am about a week and a half ahead of you yo-yo's...has it finally sunk in yet?

I went to the 12 week scan with the wife on the 16th - she had drunk too much water so the sonographer told her to go for a wee and come back again. In the intervening time between the first part and the second part of the scan, baby had turned around, faced the other way on the screen laid on its back, put its arms behind its head, and i shit you not, turned its head and "looked" at the screen for a few seconds before turning back again.

Couldnt have been more relaxed if it tried. Like father, like child, I suppose. :D

Ours flicked off the sonographer. We were so proud. We also have a great little skeletal thumbs up pic.

Congratulations!
Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.

Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me.

Soccer related good news. Co-ed team went down 4-1 Tuesday night in the playoff semifinals, despite my best efforts in goal, scored 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to tie and go to overtime. Nothing decided in overtime, so it's shootout time. Stopped 3 of 6 shots, and scored the winning penalty with out sixth shot. Awesome comeback, world is good. Wednesday night, it's men's league quarterfinals. Go down 2-0, and we rallied to tie it at 2, and go to overtime (I managed to get assists on both goals). Overtime comes, and we score the winner with 2 minutes left in overtime, and all of a sudden there's a pile of 12 30 something year old men (on average) on the ground screaming like a bunch of schoolgirls. That winning feeling in sports, especially when you do it yourself, as opposed to cheering for a team from the stands, is just so euphoric. You won't be able to wipe this smile off my face for at least a week.

Well, the eight post-game beers, and the Canucks and Penguins both losing tonight is adding to my happy mood too. :)

I completely agree.  Easily one of the happiest moments of my life was the day of the very first football game (freshman football) I ever coached.  Down 6-0 with like 30 seconds to play, we got a miracle catch on a Hail Mary to tie, a 2-pt conversion to go ahead, and stuffed 'em after the kickoff for the win.  The moments after the game were awesome but even better came a few minutes later.  "Coach, you need to get over to the bus..."  Myself and the other coach head over to our bus and the thing is shaking as the kids celebrate.  We walk on and the kids go nuts cheering for us and celebrating.  The euphoria - and, man, is that the absolutely perfect word - of the moment was unreal.  Pure, unadulterated joy.

And I've got the game itself on tape (I'm the out of breath one with the bad moustache):

My girlfriend got an A on her very last exam.  In a couple of weeks, she'll be getting her Masters in Information Assurance.

I am sooooo relieved.

Congrats!

Had a brilliant day today. Bought my tickets in advance for a first day screening of The Avengers this Thursday at 7pm. Not much happens in the closest town to where I live but one of my favourite bands performed today so I saw them live and met the most well known member, the UK's top film critic Mark Kermode. I brought his two recent books with him which he signed and I had a photo taken with him. Really nice man.

My dad is recovering well after having bypass surgery carried out on his femoral artery in his left leg. They couldn't find a vein in his leg for the bypass - so they used an artificial tube.

The reason they couldn't find a vein was because they already used 4 of the for his heart bypass surgery 19 years ago.

Todays football results (he's a City fan) cheered him up no end.

Yesterday, I became a godfather! Some of friends of my GF and I had their second child last night, and asked me to be the godfather! I know it's a big responsibility, but I'm freakin' stoked about it!

I always knew it wouldn't be long before a fighter goes legal on the athletic commissions for their ineptitude.

Never in a million years did I think Nick Diaz would be that fighter.

My prayers are with your father, Copperpot.

And yeah, being a godfather is huge. I am listed as the legal guardian of three of my five godchildren.

I might have met my girlfriend. I went out to see the Avengers with a girl who is into Batman, Pokemon, Zelda, and Portishead.....we were almost late for the movie because we talked at least for twenty minutes. She doesn't think she's hot at all -- but she has a ton of confidence, she's hot to me, and has a dry sense of humor (like mine).

And she told me to call her when I got back --- I did and left message telling her I would watch Dark Shadows with her next weekend.

EDIT: Looking back...it was almost a disaster because the girl had to close up for work and had to take care of her dog and was really late.

However, when she finally showed up (we agreed to go to a Starbucks to chat), we hit it off really well. Turns out she's a Portishead fan and loves some of the same bands that I do (like Radiohead and Bright Eyes). I was amazed by that most of all.

Then we went to the movies and found out we had a ton in common (she's excited for Diablo III). Before the movie, I told her she is hot without glasses and with them -- she says that me without glasses that "I'm tall, dark and handsome." So she is starting to flirt back essentially. Probably should have kissed her then.

We leave for the night while it is raining and I walk her to her car. I tell her I'm going to kiss her and she says, "I don't kiss on the first date. I'm hard to get." I told her I don't mind a challenge. We did hug....a lot before we left. I kissed her on the top of the head since she is a little shorter than me.

We agreed on a second date....but I think I screwed it up by telling her I wanted a kiss at the end of the date. I should have just kissed her. The look she gave me at the end was serious puppy dog eyes. I doubt very seriously I'll see her again for a second date. :(

Second Edit: I talked to her on the phone tonight and....yeah, I think we're going on another date.

After 2 disastrous attempts at relationships, I've found an amazing girl who for once isn't inher 20s and closer to my own age and also a geek for all the things I'm a geek for. Its early in the relationship, but I feel kind of... whole and it feels damn good!

This should probably go in the weight loss thread, but it's good news to me.  I'm down to a 2x shirt and in the same size pants I wore in HS.

Even better news, my wife has become a super-fox because of her diet & exercise routine (She's down to a small/medium) but still wears old XL stuff which means that thankfully she doesn't yet believe she's super-foxy(despite my protestations otherwise), and thus will not leave me anytime soon, hooray!

Poe and James,

Welcome to the wonderful world of significant otherhood.  You will really dig it.

My girl and I have been dating for nearly four years now. We have our bad moments but we always seem to work though them.

The secret? After the shit hits the fan, always apologize first even if you know you are right. Save yourself a lot of grief and don't let your pride screw things up.

Good luck, fellas.
