Four years running I've created a thread on this topic. The nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award will be announced later today. Right now I think the favourites to win the award would be Mark Cavendish and Darren Clarke.
Novak Djokovic has to win the BBC OVerseas Sports Personality of the Year.
BBC Team of the Year should be the England Cricket team and for that, Andy Flower deserves to win BBC Coach of the Year.

I LOVE that Natural is such a nice easy going guy... and then some one says "Shia LeBeouf" and Mr Hyde emerges with a vengeance.

Ten of the UK's top sports stars have been nominated for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Hailing from four nations of the UK and representing six very different sports, the 10 have thrilled audiences around the world in 2011 and each now has a chance of being crowned the 58th BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
The winner will be selected by public vote during the live show on Thursday, 22 December from 2000 GMT.
The shortlist (in alphabetical order) is: Mark Cavendish (cycling), Darren Clarke (golf), Alastair Cook (cricket), Luke Donald (golf), Mo Farah (athletics), Dai Greene (athletics), Amir Khan (boxing), Rory McIlroy (golf), Andy Murray (tennis), Andrew Strauss (cricket).
The shortlist of 10 contenders was put together by a panel of sports editors from national and regional newspapers and magazines.
Presented by Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey, the show will broadcast live on BBC One from MediaCityUK, Salford, with some of the biggest names in world sport expected to attend.
Asked about the absence of women amongst the nominees Lineker told The One Show: "Don't blame me, I don't vote! It perhaps has not been as strong a year for women but I'm sure that will change next year with the Olympics with the likes of Jess Ennis and Rebecca Adlington. There are no footballers, there has not been a big tournament this year, and the rugby players have not had a good year."
The public will be able to vote for their BBC Sports Personality of the Year by telephone; details of the numbers to vote on will be given out during the programme.
In addition to the main award of Sports Personality of the Year there will also be awards for: Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Helen Rollason Award, Sports Unsung Hero.

Now that the nominees have come out, I fancy either Mark Cavendish, Darren Clarke, Alastair Cook or Andrew Strauss to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. Out of those, I'd like Alastair Cook to win it.

Britain's sportswomen have reacted with anger and dismay at the complete absence of women on the shortlist for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award.
After solid but rather unspectacular years the boxer Amir Khan and world No4 tennis player Andy Murray both featured on the 10-man list, but there was no place for the triathlon world champion Chrissie Wellington, the world champion rower Kath Grainger or the world champion swimmers Keri-Anne Payne and Rebecca Adlington.
Payne was sanguine about her omittance – "Thank you so much for all your tweets! We don't need awards just the support from the Great British public! So keep it coming " – but Wellington was more outspoken: "No women in @bbcspoty top ten. Its not about me, its about the need to celebrate achievements of so many female GBR athletes. Disgraceful."
Adlington was also critical. "Think there has been some great women in sport this year including my best friend @KeriannePayne and sad they haven't been recognised," she tweeted. "Hopefully next year can be all women nominations after London 2012!!!!"
Gail Emms, who won silver in the mixed doubles badminton at the 2004 Olympics, tweeted: "Where are our WORLD CHAMPION women? @BeckAdlington @KeriannePayne @chrissiesmiles - so annoying.
"Think that sportsmen and women should vote. Get the true feelings of the athletes who know what it's like to win medals and be no.1"
The BBC's presenters Gabby Logan and Claire Balding were also critical. "I can't think of anything to say about there being NO women on #SPOTY top 10 list that is positive so I won't say anything," tweeted Logan, adding the hashtag "#backward".
The the shortlist for the awards is collated from nominations by the sports editors of newspapers and magazines. The mens magazines Nuts and Zoo have both come under fire for failing to nominate any female athletes, while the Manchester Evening News's nominations were criticised for their parochialism: the Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov and the retired Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira.

Hahahaha Berba and Vieira? What the fuck?
Not connected enough to know any more, but have there been any really outstanding women candidates, or is it just everyone kinda sucked this year?

As mentioned Adlington and Payne both won world titles in the swimming but with Jess Ennis not winning gold I don't see any women having done enough in the public eye to win this year anyway.

Yeah that's just what I was thinking. I know it's a great achievement and all, but I couldn't name any previous swimming world champions, so I can't imagine it's a huge oversight. If they do it in the Olympics, they're on the list.
Seems like more outrage for the sake of being outraged.

Mark Cavendish won the Sports Personality award, Darren Clarke in Second and Mo Farah in Third.
Happy with the top three, Cavendish has had an amazing year and very deserving. I am surprised that Rory McIllroy didn't make the top three however.
