It's always pissed me off that I can't find a local bar or restaurant that can make me a Dark 'N' Stormy. I always get this look, like I just asked for a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster.

Are you on the East Coast? It's pretty standard in most places in New England, in my experience...

My favorite local slow-food gastro-pubby place makes an excellent version where instead of Gosling's, they use Ron Abuelo Anejo 12y.o. Rum, a great ginger beer from a company called Maine Root, and they also throw in a bit of Domain de Canton Ginger Liqueur.

I'm pretty basic.  Rum and coke.  Screwdriver.  Or the one that does weird people out, and I have no clue why, is Vodka and Coke.

I'm thinking a vodka and Vanilla Coke would actually be pretty damn tasty.

I generally did it in reverse. Vanilla Vodka with Coke. Preferably the Mexi-coke with the real cane sugar.

The Trader Joe's Vintage Cola I mentioned above is an excellent HFCS-free cola; I actually prefer the TJ's stuff to the Mexican, Canadian, or Israeli Coke made with sugar.
