The funnier part to me is, like Tim said,  that they now have Meltz on staff, but he's not the pro wrestling writer.

Well fuck this place. It took 144 characters or less to kill all the buzz we'd built up in this thread. "We take pro wrestling seriously" sounds like code for Davey Richards vs. Davey Richards in a Davey Richards on a pole match. Inside a Steel Davey Richards.

So, I started a blog....https://farwell3d.wordpress.com/

If I'm David Shoemaker, I'm polishing my clips.

I wouldn't be surprised if Simmons doesn't like Shoemaker's "Brooklyn hipster/too cool for school" post-modern grad school analysis of the WWF scene.

I personally haven't been overwhelmingly impressed with Shoemaker myself.

I feel like maybe he's holding back so to not completely lose the casual wrestling fans that read his stuff on Grantland but maybe I'm wrong. I gave up on reading his articles once it was apparent that he was going to try to tie CM Punk into everything.

Really, the problem isn't his bombastic style nearly as much as the fact that he's done the same schtick forever, and it's just tired.

Scott Raab ‏ @ScottRaab64

I'm so ancient that I remember when Michael Wilbon was more than a preening starfucker bragging about his front-row seats and Nike pals.

I agree 100% with that tweet.

Wilbon can't go a day without name-dropping the people he's met or talked to.

I too agree with this 100%, however, I remember when Scott Raab wasn't a bitter old fuck & was able to write about more than LeBron.
HANK: Hey there, Bobby. I guess they found a cure for the cooties? Heh, heh, heh.
BOBBY: I don't know. What are cooties?
HANK: Well, when I was a boy, that's what they called the germs you got from girls.
BOBBY: Oh, you mean like chlamydia?
HANK: Huh?

Awesome story from Deadspin about an ESPN columnist that was fired less than 90 minutes after this was published

I think they concluded that the girl is real and some kind of scam artist who ESPN hired and fired. I admit I skimmed through portions of it.. so I could be way off.

That's basically the gist.  Although ESPN didn't "fire" her until after the article.  Also, they didn't technically fire her, given that she was a freelancer, and not an actual employee.  They just "severed" the working agreement.

The basic point is this:  She's a con artist who started on a message board for a gambling website, was an interesting enough of a writer there to get a column for the website.  She used that position to scam a person out of a few thousand bucks for starting a website together She also happened to be an interesting enough writer at that website to get a freelance spot on ESPN's page 2.  And then she used that position to leverage her way into conning the NBA Memes creator out of his own website, in an effort to launch hers.  But she probably kind of fucked up there, by getting too high profile.

She has a future in politics or as an ESPN executive.

Wow, talk about glossing over the major points of what's going on. She also scammed the guys who run the @OhWonka account and various other Twitter accounts, and did it with a shady business partner. This is far and away the sports media story of the year.

I guess I missed that part in the story...

But, then, I'd never heard of her before this article, so it's not really registering that highly for me.
