The thing with Gomes is that he'll make absolutely astonishing saves if the ball's going in the top corner but seems awfully vulnerable if people just hit the ball straight at him. I'd still take him over Scott Carson though.

I'd feel safer with Almunia at the back than Gomes.
How did Jeff Stelling react to the keeper scoring in the Hartlepool game? He must have gone crackers, right?

Barcelona result pours some doubt on those cast-iron claims about teams not being allowed to play them without diving/refs in pocket/shadowy UNICEF influence.
You know, at least til Tuesday.
Anyway, when did Barca and Real last lose on the same day?

Georgios Samaras was right, the Old Firm derby can't really match the awfulness that is Greek football.

ATHENS, Greece (AP)—The Greek Cup final prematurely ended in chaos when celebratory AEK Athens fans invaded the pitch, fought with Atromitos players and abused their supporters, and damaged cameras of state broadcaster NET on Saturday.
Referee Tassos Kakos was forced to blow the whistle just a minute into a nine-minute injury time after hundreds of AEK fans invaded the pitch. Many rushed to celebrate with their players, but others headed toward the VIP stands where family members and friends of the Atromitos players were seated, throwing projectiles at them.
Atromitos coach Giorgos Donis asserted that some aimed pistols at the VIP spectators.
“I’ve never seen this in a game, ever, players having to fight to save their families … they were pointing pistols at them,” Donis said.
Atromitos players rushed to defend their kin and friends and exchanged blows with the AEK fans before riot police intervened, swinging clubs and throwing tear gas.

When Garry Kasparov dies I'm going to be sad that I never saw him dismantle Usain Bolt in a game of Chinese Checkers.

With Almunia you know what you're gonna get. With Gomes he might have a stunner. He might have the worst game possible. But worst of all, he might have a combination, where he'll make a couple of stunning saves, then let the ball go through his legs. I'm not joking, the last part of that sentence is how you can describe 2 man of the match performances -> 2 howlers Massimo Taibi.

btw, Spurs, we'll swap you Kuszczak and cash for Modric. Everyone wins.
