I was thinking of doing an Annual DVDVR Awards thread, but realised that I can't be bothered and after giving myself most of the awards the joke would wear thin.

But I did think of a definite thread of the year.

Enjoy. I get almost as much of a kick out of reading this as I do reading the old RAWK Istanbul thread.

Group D's teams are tough, I'm not 100% sure England or the US will go any further than the next round. Wouldn't mind Germany, since Serbia and Ghana are both solid teams. It's a tough game whoever we get.

Who's this fucking idiot, and why is he talking about football like he knows anything?

Going through the thread again it's funny reading how pessimistic my posts were about Spain and their chances with the World Cup winning pic I have in my sig now hahaha. I have to say, when Iniest scored and Spain won, all I did was cry. Like a hard, bitter cry. The initial emotion was not a happy one, it was a very hard reminder of my mother being gone. But as the minutes and hours passed my joy grew and grew and the singing and dancing grew and grew. There are lots of times I will pop in the DVD and watch the national anthems, Iniesta's goal and the trophy ceremony and celebration and just MARK THE HECK OUT like a nut. Definitely a moment I think I will remember forever. Thanks for bringing up this thread and the memories again haha.

I like how people started bitching about the refereeing being crooked then went back to fucking Major League Baseball and the NBA.

I was catching up on older podcasts of the Danny Baker show recently. Now, I like the guy, but he was so annoying in those. When Spain lost their opening game, he was all "Told ya, Spain aren't as good as people make out". Then as they progressed, he'd keep saying that they'd get knocked out in the next round, that he couldn't see what the big fuss about them was. Of course, with England's poor performances, it was always stuff like "We don't need to worry just yet, we'll win the next one. We're too good to go out this early".

In fairness, this is all hindsight, and he spent the next few shows vowing to boycott England games because they always get your hopes up and are useless on the big stage.
What happened to the niceties of my childhood days?

I loved baker's shows during the 2006 euros.
