Just a heads up - NBA TV is showing classic NBA draft broadcasts today. They are showing 1984 right now, and will be showing 1985 and 1986 this afternoon. I had no idea that the USA Network had the NBA Draft TV rights at one time.

Right now a very respectful young Alvin Robertson in a very 80s shirt is being interviewed about being drafted to the Spurs. The fine folks at NBA TV are popping up graphics about what players went on to do, i.e. "Roberston led the NBA in steals for 3 seasons"

And John Stockton of Gonzaga is the next pick for the Utah Jazz....to a chorus of boos!

The best part of the airings this year is that they have added SECOND ROUND COVERAGE~!  They are currently interviewing Darren Morningstar from the 1992 Draft. Fantastic!

Watching the Heat take Harold Miner while passing over Bryant Stith, Jon Barry, Anthony Peeler, Doug Christie, Hubert Davis and Latrell Sprewell made me die just a little bit inside.

Trust me, you didn't miss anything when the Heat didn't draft Bryant Stith. Good guy, but he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a barn.

Now to see a grown man cry, watch the Nuggets draft Nikoloz Tskitishvili over Amare Stoudamire...

It's one of the reasons I'm skipping the replays of the NBA Drafts... it's all so painful.

James Ray, Jerome Lane, Blair Rassmussen, Howard Carter, Rob Williams, LaPhonso Ellis and those frickin' knees. *sigh*

I feel you on the 2002 front because, even though I liked the pick, I have to relive taking Dajuan Wagner over Caron Butler every single time I see him.

It was worse in 1999 when even an 11 year old me was screaming for them to pick James Posey or Ron Artest over Trajan Langdon.

Pardon me while I go smash my head against a wall...

I still think Wagner would've been a really good player like Monta Ellis if someone wasn't constantly sticking pins in the crotch of a Dajuan Wagner voodoo doll.

Stith averaged double figures in three seasons, could actually defend and played 8 years in the league. I wouldn't rate him any higher than "average", either...but compared to Baby Jordan, that's a win.

I see your point. If anyone did not deserve comparisons to MJ, it's Harold Miner.

However, I must stop watching these draft re-runs, because I was just reminded that the Nuggets took Raef LeFrentz over Antwan Jamison, Vince Carter AND Dirk Nowitzki. I love Dan Issel as a player and he wasn't bad as a coach, but he was an awful general manager.

Three words:  Darko over Melo.

It's not like Pistons fans were the only ones who got screwed. If Darko had gone to any other team he probably would've turned out a lot better.

Besides, I think the only fans who have a right to bitch about the draft are Suns fans. Look at all those picks they sold and the worst trade in the history of the NBA Kurt Thomas and two 1sts for a 2nd.

But Pistons won the title that year, lost in 7 games in the finals the next, and in the Eastern Conference finals the next 3.  You telling me Carmelo Anthony couldn't have been the piece that turned them from very good team into dynasty?

It is impossible to say. I, for one, can well imagine that if you subtract Prince and add Melo at SF for those Pistons team...it might significantly enough impact the level of team defense that the Pistons played to of affected their success. It's possible they might of been a better team, but based on the fact that the Pistons were a defensive oriented team, and Melo then (and today...but slightly improved) was a truly truly bad defender, they may of been a worse team.

Either way, they won with what they had and there is just no way to know whether they would of with Melo...
