One more comment, re Rippa's "Democracy simply doesn’t work" comment. The original DVDVR '90s vote simply can not be held to the standards of the '80s votes, or (to a much lesser extent) the annual Purotopia votes. The amount of effort that would have been needed to do an '80s forum-style nominating group of people who watch Absolutely Every Match would have been insane. Not to mention that things weren't as organized online, so it would have taken longer to cobble together all the footage. Doing it the purotopia "hopefully some people don't totally free ride" way, with the vague "what the hell does a yes vote even mean?" standards would have resulted in an initial pool of about a hundred thousand nominated matches, which would then need to be whittled down successive rounds of voting and even then would be vulnerable to matches slipping through the cracks because some shows just aren't owned by anyone but Jeff Lynch.
As far as balancing expediency with a modicum of throughness, the DVDVR '90s vote holds up better than a hell of a lot of similar efforts. It didn't pretend to be untouchable or decisive, because if it had tried to be (like the '80s votes), it would still be going on and with lots more left.
