Disc 1
Freelance, Pegasso Xtreme & Rey Cometa vs. Los Oficiales (IWRG 10/17/08)
Freelance is the most spectacular wrestler in the world, and the Officiales are great classic rudos. These teams had a really fun series and this was the best of their matches. Neat basic lucha trios match with the addition of a bunch of HOLY FUCK moments.
Genichiro Tenryu vs. Yoshiaki Yatsu (SWS 10/29/91)
Hugely brutal heavyweight slugfest. There are multiple points in this match where you think someone is legitimately KOed.
Larry Zybysko, Bobby Eaton & Arn Anderson v. Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes & Nikita Koloff (WCWSN 5/23/92)
Great 2/3 falls match from Frye WCW which is my favorite US wrestling period ever. Arn is especially spectacular here.
El Hijo Del Santo v. Brazo De Oro (UWA 1/13/91)
Mask v. hair lucha classic with both guys bleeding buckets. One the lesser known Santo masterpieces.
Terry Funk vs. Homicide (JAPW 9/27/03)
There is no reason for old ass Terry Funk to take this level of asskicking. Crazy brawler Homicide is the best and Funk is Funk.
Blue Panther v. Villano V (Mask vs. Mask) (CMLL 9/19/08)
My 2008 match of the year, a true lucha classic like we hadn’t seen much in the 21st century. Panther is an all time great, 2008 was his year, and this was the kicker.
Golden Moose Cholak vs. Larry Sheen (2/3 Falls) (Chicago 1950s)
Really fun match from the 50’s, which wouldn’t look out of place in any year. Cholak totally ruled as your Eisenhower era Vader.
Los Misioneros de la Muerte vs. Los Cadetes del Espacio (IWRG 2/10/05)
There has been a big resurgence in indy maestro lucha showing up on DVD and the internet in the last couple of years, and this was the best of those matches. Great, great stuff.
Terry Funk vs. Mr. Wrestling II (MSG 11/25/85)
If this was in the Omni it would have been a classic, in front of a MSG crowd who didn’t know II, it was more of a really cool oddity.
Riki Choshu v. Yoshiaki Fujiwara (NJ 6/9/87)
Maybe my favorite wrestling match ever. Two of the most charismatic wrestlers ever, blood, crazy crowd, really everything that makes pro wrestling great.
Disc 2
Mystico De La Juarez, Silver King & Rubi Gardenia vs. Cassandro, Magno & El Hijo Del Santo (London 12/9/08)
Traditional lucha libre trios match with everyone looking great. Cassandro especially looks like a star.
Necro Butcher v. Sami Callihan (IWA-MS 10/4/08)
Callihan is my favorite up and coming indy guy and he takes it to Necro here in a total asskicking brawl.
Gypsy Joe vs. Mighty Inoue (IWE 4/27/77)
Grim seedy disgusting little match. Both guys beat the crap out of each other and the grittiness of it makes it look like Mean Streets.
Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett vs. The Moondogs (Concession Stand Brawl) (USWA 1992)
More out of control violence. Lawler, Jarrett and the Moondogs recklessly throw chairs, garbage cans and bottles at each other heads.
Wayne Shamrock v. Naoki Sano (PWFG 5/19/91)
Shamrock used to rule at pro-wrestling. This is as good as any shootstyle match ever, and Sano is one of the true greats.
Buddy Rose vs. Rick Martel (2/3 falls) (Portland 4/26/80)
Rose comes in after losing a hair match, so he is wearing a wig held on by a mask. Classic Rose bumping and comedy.
Hayato Jr. Fujita vs. Yoshitune (M-PRO 12/12/08)
Yoshitune has always been a great youtube video wrestler, but this is an actual great match in between the awesome spots.
Original Midnight Express v. Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee (AWA 10/30/87)
If you have finished the Memphis set and still want more classic Lawler and Superstar, this is as good of a Southern tag as their was in the 1980’s
Yuki Ishikawa, Alexander Otsuka & Munenori Sawa vs. Daisuke Ikeda, Katsumi Usuda & Super Tiger II (BattlArts 7/26/08)
One of the best BattlArts matches ever as these six guys brutalize each other. Everyone in this has career level performances. Just great stuff.
Booker T vs. Joey Matthews (NEW 5/3/08)
Fun little hidden gem. Booker and Matthews have a great Smackdown match in front of a bunch of little kids enjoying themselves tremendously.
$10 (Add $2.50 if overseas)

Heres a minority opinion I have about wrestling; every wrestling fan is entitled to their opinion, no matter how right or wrong I might think it is. Though in the back of my mind, I do wish that some people didn't have an opinion about anything and just choked on their own saliva.

Tenryu vs. Yatsu was just man-size in it's pounding. Loved it.
The WCW 6 Man is so fucking great. I remember watching that on TBS. Such a great match and I had a flashback to being upset that the Dangerous Alliance was about to break up.
El Hijo Del Santo v. Brazo De Oro, once agin I'm not a Lucha guy, but this was great. Lots of blood, and I wish I knew what was being said in the vignettes with the little kid and the bad guy in the black mask.
Watching Funk/ Homicide now. Why was I not going to JAPW shows until 2005?

I skipped around a bit and dug the Gypsy Joe match. I have only scene older than Moses Joe so it was interesting to see this IWE from 77. A great simple chopping meat match. Nothing too flashy and good god Joe's punches in the headlock are brutal.
The Sammi Callihan and Necro was great as well. I had only seen this in clip form. I usually hate the IWA commentary but they did a good job putting over Callihan's jaw being messed up and how he needed to get his hands up. Great suprise finish.
Great disc so far and thanks for doing these again. There is nothing like a good well rounded comp.
Dr. Wagner Jr. is also more than willing to come over to your house, but only if you pick him up, order that Chinese food he likes and he gets to hold the remote the whole night. (quote from Cubs Fan's site)

I'm especially jumping for joy for #2 being released already, I've wanted to see the "AAA No Rope Barbed Wire Cage Street Fight Tornado Death Match" since reading about it in the DVDVR #100 years ago.

The song is "Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Grenada Last Night" by The Coup
Also, so you know, since these are Phil's comps, Phil picks the music as well.

Tenryu vs. Yatsu was a great, stiff, hard hitting heavyweight fight. Tenryu is always one of my favorites to watch.
Santo vs. Oro was awesome. Great storytelling, blood, drama and heat. Why did Santo almost attack that guy before the match? And what was with that promo with the kid and the guy in the black mask? Creepy.
Panther vs. Villano V was good but I didn't like the way the first two falls ended. The third fall was good but it left me wanting more.
Cholak vs.Sheen HOLY CRAP!!! I was shocked at how good this was! Cholak can really move and wrestle for a guy his size. Sheen was also good. The crowd reaction also really added to this. A reaction like that isn't possible today. A must see match that illustrates how wrestling has and has not changed over the years.
I'd really like to see more of this old school action.
The Mean Streets reference was dead on for Joe vs. Inoue. They do some actual wrestling but it's really all stiff chops and punches. It reminded me of the Roddy Piper and Keith David fight from the movie They Live. I really dig this kind of wrestling
Shamrock should get back into wrestling now that his fight career is over. I'd love to see him in BattlArts.
As good as everyone was in the BattlArts 6 man Ikeda vs. Ishikawa is still magic. They rival Flair vs. Steamboat for my all time favorite feud.
Overall it was a really great disc. Lots of ass stomping. I'm looking foward to the next one.
