Driverette.  9/10/2008.  Dean Rasmussen.  Richmond outskirts.  "Dr Wu" by Steely Dan.

BACKSTORY:  Reshuffling my wrestling view time now that football season is in full swing.  Was gonna see who won the G-1 (see Living Driverette from 9/8) but got sidetracked by the first half of the the Chargers/Panthers game on NFL Rewind.  Then I took a nap.  I figure Wednesday will mega wrestling veiwing so I will attempt to watch two AAAs and three CMLL on FSEs tonight.  Plus I got the World Of Sport stuff that ryan posted in my DVD player and I watched the first 45 seconds of the EMPEROR match before drifting off to sleep.  So there will be that too.

THE WRESTLING:  Pretty much just the AWA rerun with the completely fabulous Stan Hansen interview where he bats Larry Nelson around like Stan Hansen was a fat lady at a singles bar and Larry Nelson was Larry Nelson hitting on Stan Hansen as a fat lady at a single's bar.  So Larry Nelson was awesome because he was using The Method- he found a peice of himself that shines through the part that he played and the performance was that much richer for it.  Plus it was fun to watch the first Rockers vs Sommers/Rose match again.  Rose and Sommers were so fucking awesome.

- I also watched the second WWF At MSG from last Wednesday and it was pretty much why I watched so much NWA during that period.  God, that Brunzell vs Bret Hart made me want rip my eyes out.  Hogan versus Savage was fun because Savage will die for your pleasure and sure Hogan sucked, but he did rip his entire forehead open and blow plasma out of his head like he was Tommy Rich in 1986.  The Hillbilly Jim/ Uncle Elmer vs Valentine/Beefcake match sucked ass.  Boy did that suck ass.  Fuck you, WWF, for fucking up a perfectly awesome Greg Valentine career.

NANIWA~!

I can only assume you forgot to mention that Adonis/Poffo match from MSG Classics. Fun while it lasted. Lanny looked like the World's Toughest John Oates with that perm backinaday...

God, I watched that but have no actual recollection of anything that happened in that match.  I blame Adrian Adonis.

It was interesting in that he was in mid-transformation to the Adorable gimmick, with the blond hair and mannerisms but still wearing his biker gear (including those awesome old Yankee logo boots). Crowd didn't know what to make of him but Poffo's flippy floppy stuff got a pretty good reaction.

Of course, all you really need to know is they have Bruno vs Zybszko from 1980 tonight. Hoo hah!

I've been trying to finish up watching the awesome NJ/Z1 feud that I've had downloaded for a while, and so today I watched 4/24 Manabu Nakanishi & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Takao Omori & Osamu Namiguchi and 4/25 Manabu Nakanishi & Yujiro vs. Takao Omori & Osamu Namiguchi. Holy crap Namiguchi takes a nasty beating in both these matches from Nakanishi. I mean he just TOTALLY kicks his ass. These two matches made me immediately become a fan of Nakanishi.

I also got my Memphis set in the mail and I'm pretty stoked about watching it along with the rest of the sets I got from goodhelmet. I have 32 discs of wrestling to get through right now so that should probably keep me occupied for a good while. Only had time to watch Bill Dundee vs. Larry Latham from the Memphis set and it was a pretty decent TV match but I'm sure it won't be anything at the top of my ballot.

I also popped in the first disc of my Dick Murdoch comp and watched his 2 out of 3 falls match with Inoki from..71 I think? I had downloaded this a while back but never got around to watching it. As soon as I saw Dick Murdoch shake hands with Inoki at the start of the match I knew Murdoch would do his awesome story of starting out playing by the rules and slowly nastier and nastier. And he did that but Inoki sucks and doesn't sell for shit. But Murdoch is still the greatest.

I hadn't gotten around to writing this up but Brian & I had a 2-man Dorkfest last Sunday.  DEAN was otherwise occupied celebrating birthdays or some such.  We watched some ROH from January.  There was a 3-way with Stevens/Aries/Davey.  I think Dean has jaded me into going into 3-ways expecting to be disappointed.  This seemed really good but short but we were talking over lots of it.  Then watched Joey Matthews' ROH re-debut as he teamed with Jacobs vs. Strong & Romero.  Fun match and Joey was up for some bumping.  I've heard mixed reviews of his physical condition so I'm guessing he tries hard in ROH at least.  Neither of these matches are worth going out of your way to see but perfectly good wrestling viewing.

Also watched some Noah from last fall.  Man, Bull Buchanan has become quite the hidden most improved worker.  I was hard-pressed to argue Bernard was much better than Buchanan's performance here with D-Lo vs. Suguira & Suzuki (I think, whatever the GHC tag title change match was).  I mean, I just comically put that match on as a joke to keep Brian company while I went upstairs to get the laptop to see who won the Sasaki/Morishima match, and it turned into a lot of fun.  We also watched Joe vs. Misawa which was about as good as a Misawa match probably gets these days.  I was telling Brian about Adam & Mike cracking on Kawada for messing with his kneepads while selling so we were going to see how much Misawa fiddled with his pants while selling.  He didn't do it that much and we were surprised how much of the match he gave to Joe.
