DRIVERETTE 3/13/2008! SILVER KING~KAWADA~DeBEERS

BACKSTORY: Did more work to the NASA-LEVEL satellite configuration so it cut into my wrestling time though it makes it possible to tape things for Doug again- so I was happy. Then the girls wanted to watch MST3K so that ate into other wrestling time. I let them watch ANGEL'S REVENGE- a classic.
THE WRESTLING: The AWA was pretty lacklustre. I cannot get excited about a Greg Gagne squash. The DeBeers squash was interesting because I was reading an interview linked off Wikipedia where he was talking how he was trained by Harley Race- THUS I finally recognize that style he has. There were amusing stories of Lord Littlebrook controlling midget wrestling. DeBeers comes off as a slightly bitter, sarcastic asshole in the interview- like you would want him to come off. Go read it.
The only other thing of interest other than the greatness of Doug Somers was Vader as a 15 year old.
- Watched the rest of that All Japan 3/1/2008 card it was pretty fucking awesome. Silver King vs Kensuke's boy Nakajima was pretty great. It's pretty much what I expect a Silver King match in BattlARTS would look like. Silver King hits two fucking HIDEOUSLY stiff lariats and takes his Lucha stylings to incorporate driving Nakajima through the mat with them. It is all about the swanky. You want to see ALLLL this. I gotta watch the other Silver King in AJ match I have laying around the hoose.
I really dug the Kawada vs Tanahashi dynamic of the Kea/Kawada vs Mutoh/Tanahashi match. All mediocre New Japan guys become interesting while invading and this invasion was something special because Kawada will kick an invader right in the face and we get to watch. Tanahashi was really fun as condescending New Japan shithead. Tie-Oh Kay-ah wrestles a lot like Dean Malenko now- if Dean Malenko had better strikes, so that was a plus coming from a guy that I have barely thought about since his Maunekea Mossman days. Mutoh still sucks. Kawada and Tanahashi beating the shit out of each other makes you wanna see this though. The singles match could be Tanahashi Miracle Match number 10- as Tanahashi is really lucky about ending up against guys who really know how to carry him.
- I watched the opening NOAH 3/2/2008 bout and it was an opening match and it went Broadway and it was God's special way of telling me that maybe I should get some sleep.
Tonight is MEIKO~MAMMOTH~TNA night so GEAR UP!
NANIWA~!

15 minutes, not 60.
Still, not the greatest idea. It does seem to be a pretty regular NOAH thing having a couple of rookies go to a 10 or 15 min draw.

The Wrestling:
First was Shu Shibutani & Kaori Yoneyama v. Arisa Nakajima & Saki Maemura. I'm really confused about the girls who wrestle in SUN. I mean I've yet to like a SUN match because the regulars just don't look liek they're trying. But you get them in another ring and they bust ass. Saki Maemura seems to be another victim of the SUN curse. Really boring in SUN but she was absolute gold in this match and made you realize she can actually do more than dropkick people. This is also pre-Pretty In Pink Nakajima and she does quite fine. The one that I really liked (besides Yoneyama who is always awesome) was Shibutani. She's got te spazztic youngster ways but is fun to watch. She kills Nakajima DEAD with can only be described as a stiff Senton Bomb. Watch the match to see what I mean.
I was all set to wrap this up when I skimmed the matches folder and... hey my new favorite team 'BARI BARI SAIKYO No.1 Team' invade OZ Academy (desudesu, many thanks to you). Haruyama and Tsubasa bring their JWP tag belts with them as they face Chikayo Nagashima and Sonoko Kato (she of the junk in the trunk). It is always so strange to see Kato and Nagashima on a tea mtogether since they spent so much time trying ot kill each other in GAEA and even recently in OZ Academy. Kato/Nagashima are playing face to the JWP girls Joshi Midnight Express (I'd say the Condrey/Eaton version). Please don't tell me JWP is feuding with JWP too, though it makes a cetain logical sense since that is where Ozaki got her start and all. I half expect Haruyama & Kuragaki to show up in a New Japan ring next to challenge Yano & Makabe, though the thought of Hyuga kneeing out Nakamura's eye has a certain appeal to me.
Here is where I once again tell everyone how I adore Kayoko Haruyama. She knows she and Tsubasa are the de facto heels so she mockingly hand claps to get the OZ fans into the match. Kato isn't afraid to kick a bitch though and of Haruyama wants to heel it up in OZ's ring then Kato has got to make her pay. Nagashima brigns te footstomps and cool counter wrestling while Tsubasa ain't afraid to level the smaller OZ girls with a Kyoko-Lariat. I think Haruyama is missing her true calling as a heel in JWP, because she can play bitch so well. Heck, JWP could use an actual heel faction or team to liven it up a little. But I digress...
Haruyama and Tsubasa bust out most of their fun double teams, usually picking on poor Nagashima, who isn't afraid of taking a few evil lariat from either of the JWP women. Hell Nagashima even bites the bullet and takes Tsubasa top rope moonsault. It becomes a simple matter of Nagashima surviving against Tsubasa's power offense and even though there might be some nifty counters (Chikayo busts outthe swank rana counter to Splash Mountain) in the end Nagashima eats a running Tsubasa lariat and JWP picks up the win. I relly love Haruyama and Kuragaki, they're matches are just such damn fun and I hope more oftheir stuf makes the rounds. This was fun, it didn't have the heat of the Haruyama/Kuragaki v. Takahashi/Taiyo match but it still delivered. I' tracking as much 'BARI BARI SAIKYO No.1 TEAM' matches as I can and amking me a comp dammit!

I figured it was something along those lines. It is just a damn shame that they don't get respect from the men. I know some male workers have very high respect for the Joshi girls (besides Sasuke). I remember my friend in japan telling me how frustrated Chono was when AJW was forced to close, because he actually was a fan. I'm actually suprised that Kensuko Office doesn't train Joshi workers given who Sasaki is married to.

What did they do with those old buildings the Matsunagas owned and had to sell off? Residential apartments? Commercial? Just abandoned?
Hokuto not wantign to train Joshi girls kinda makes sense, I mean on top of running her husbands business and investments she's got 2 kids (or is it 3?) and has to feed Nakajima (he is a growing boy after all ;))
At least Sasuke/Jinsei have a deep enough respect for the Joshi scene to bankroll Sendai. Ah for the days of 2002 when Chono was talking of starting a Joshi office for New Japan...

No fed listed on the ring apron but the date listed is 7-8-06. I mainly got it to get a look at the younger girls/rookies and of course for Yoneyama.
