Full Version: Covers You Want to Hear

So I was browsing through the Bizarre Covers Battle thread and thought of a couple of songs that I'd like to hear covers of by specific groups:

- Rasputin by Rammstein: for some reason I think that it might be fun and every metal cover of Rasputin I've heard so far hasn't really been good
- Thick as a Brick (Jethro Tull) by Dave Matthews Band: I really like the original but it would be interesting to hear DMB take a crack at the song.

Any band/cover song combination you'd like to hear now or wish could've happened in the past?

The Darkness getting back together and covering "Bohemian Rhapsody" would be awesome.
Evil Antler God
I'm convinced that practically any song could be made better if David Bowie covered it
Brian Fowler
Years ago, my college roommate and I decided that Metalica and Garth Brooks should do a straight up trade of Mama Said for The Thunder Rolls, and I still stand by that demand.
Blazing Dragon
Korn doing "Murder Was The Case", either by themselves or a new version with Snoop. (Just imagine Jonathan doing the "Damn I see demons!" line) Jodi Manross does an interesting cover of it..... (Look it up on Youtube)

As long as its someone decent, I'd like to see a female singer do a cover of Patrick Swayze's song from Dirty Dancing, "She's Like The Wind" (obviously renamed "He's Like The Wind", unless its a lesbian or bisexual singer). My luck, it would be Shakira who does it..... (I like Shakira, but her covers generally suck)

Because Mariah Carey did a horrible, HORRIBLE cover of the Def Leppard classic "Bringin' On The Heartbreak", I'd like to see Def Leppard and Taylor Swift (who teamed up for an episode of Crossroads) do a cover of "Honey" or "Fantasy". Dave Navarro's penance for playing on Mariah's cover shall be playing on it, as well.

Speaking of Mariah Carey covers, I think Beyonce would knock it out of the park if she covered almost any Mariah Carey song, but there are a few I wouldn't want her to do. (Mostly Mariah's more recent stuff. Not a big fan of Touch My Body or Obsessed, for instance) Mariah covering Beyonce would probably suck, due to Mariah's propsensity to squeal and wail at times.

I'd like to hear a country cover of The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" or Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams"....as long as its by someone decent.

Metallica doing "The Thunder Rolls"? Yeah, I'd like to hear that. Garth doing "Mama Said", not as much, but I still bet it would be pretty good. Garth's version of KISS's "Hard Luck Woman" is one of my favorite covers.

I'd really like to hear acoustic GNR covers of both old and new stuff. Particularly I think an acoustic blues/country version of Chinese Democracy could be fun. It all ready uses a basic progression, it'd work very well with 7ths and clean. I'm talking about the title track itself. I'd love to hear an upbeat, majors and 7ths only version of it.

I typically hate covers that pretty much copy the originals note for note. What's the point if you don't put your own spin on it? For that very reason I'd love to hear Neil Young folk versions of most of the popular music of the past twenty years. Maybe an ironic folkified rap tune just for fun.

I'd love to hear Amorphis cover "Aimo" off the Macross Frontier soundtrack. For whatever reason, I just think they'd do an awesome version of it.

I would like to hear the Foo Fighters cover either Twilight Zone, When The Lady Smiles, or Radar Love by Golden Earring.

I think that Chris Brown would do a good job covering Seven by Prince.

Now that the The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have reunited, I'd like to hear them cover Save It For Later by General Public.
Vince Greene
Animal Collective doing Beach Boys covers would be fun.

AWK doing 'You Could Be Mine'.

Sign me up for this. Their version of "Band on the Run" kills and while looking for that one night on YouTube, I ran across a mess of covers by Foo Fighters. Their take on Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" is tremendous.

A long time ago, I thought it would be great to hear R.E.M. do a cover of the Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday." Michael Stipe once said in an interview that they meant more to him than the Beatles (!), so it's totally plausible I think.

For a while now, I've had this sick urge to hear The Polyphonic Spree cover "Africa" by Toto.

I would like a LOT of bands to cover Africa.

I think that Chris Brown would do a good job covering Seven by Prince.

Believe it or not, I can see Brown doing a solid job with several Prince songs. His voice is nearly in the perfect sweet spot for it. He'd nail "Mountains."

* Bootsy Collins covering MGMT's "Electric Feel"

* Pink with Hole's "Celebrity Skin" or Meredith Brooks' "Bitch." Pink on most post-1990 pop/rock songs would probably work.

* Since Beyonce missed it with "You Oughta Know" let's give Alanis Morrisette a chance with "Single Ladies."

* Kelly Clarkson on Fiona Apple's "Criminal"

* Justin Timberlake and "Darlin' Nikki"

Stiff Shots
Garbage needs to reconvene for the sole purpose of covering "Incense and Peppermints."

And I'd like to see Orianthi (the cute guitar shredder from MJ's "This Is It") blast through Van Halen's "Unchained." Or "Guilty" by Gravity Kills. Either/or. I'm not picky.
Rev
I want to see Gail Ann Dorsey do Killer Queen.

Check this out to see her bonafides. In an added bonus, Queen is apparently her favorite band.
assfax
Allan Holdsworth doing Zevon's Similar to Rain.

Pink did a cover of "Welcome to the Jungle". You'd figure, holy shit, she has a perfect voice for that. Turns out it was super, super lame and sounded more like an alt-country version. I was so disappointed.

Pink's got a good, dirty, voice, but she woudn't have the range for 'Welcome to the Jungle'. 'It's So Easy', maybe.

But I don't think I've heard a decent cover of a Gn'R song. Especially not 'Sweet Child...'.
Brian Fowler
I heard a bar band do a fairly decent Paradise City once.
William Jennings Bryan
Skyclad - "Abigail, Belle of Kilronan" (original by The Magnetic Fields)

That's about as bizarre as it gets, I think, yet it makes so much sense.

I'm thinking The Raconteurs doing "Oh! You Pretty Things" would be fantastic. Actually, Jack White covering many Bowie songs would probably turn out pretty well.

Just as long as he doesn't do "Fashion", "Modern Love" or "China Girl". Jack White doing "I Am A DJ" or "Lets Dance" would be killer, though.

I'd like to hear Rob Zombie do Billy Idol's "White Wedding", Alice Cooper's "Eighteen" or Megadeth's "Wake Up Dead".

Speaking of Idol, I'd like to hear a decent female singer do a version of "Rebel Yell". My luck, Pink would do it. Ugh.

The Stripes used to throw out a Moonage Daydream cover early on, pretty sure it's youtubeable.
