Full Version: The Human Target TV series

I've seen the first two episodes and I am totally digging this show so far. Valley, Haley, and McBride are all awesome.

I hope the show's a success. Valley deserves it and well the show is just fun. Every episode is self-contained and I like that for once. I used to like the serialization of 24, but the show has become an absolute joke and it's the same shit every time (CTU melodrama, moles, fake moles, plants, CTU analyst has a dark secret, blah blah blah).

I love 24 but the show has run its course. The Human Target, well it's massively reworked the concept of the comics (Chance takes a cover close to his clients rather than LITERALLY assuming their identity). Chance is still intact and Valley does a great job as this character. The dude's got like masculinity and charisma. Show also has some good music.

The Guerrero character seemed the most interesting last night (I haven't seen the 2nd episode yet).
TheVileOne
I like Guerrero mainly because Haley simply uses the intent and implication of what he might do rather than taking a meat cleaver to your head.

Second episode:

Where did you manage to see the second episode? It hasn't even aired yet as far as I can tell.

Fox sent me a screener since I interviewed Mark Valley.

I checked out the first episode last night. Enjoyed it. The fight scene was extremely well done and I liked how the fight ended. I plan on adding this to my weekly viewing schedule.

My mancrush on Mark Valley has been lifethreatening since KEEN EDDIE. So imagine my delight.

He'll always be Brad Chase from Boston Legal to me.

Mancrush doesn't even begin to cover my totally notgay love for Mark Valley.

Same here.

Yeah, I'm digging the something old / something new feel of The Human Target.
TheVileOne
I also just found out Valley was married to Anna Torv which makes me like him that much more. Lucky bastard. Too bad he's 45 because he's like already the perfect actor for Captain America. Marvel will simply never cast anyone his age as Cap (Downey Jr. aside). Still, wish I could look that good at 45, un-freaking-believable.

Saw the first episode on Sunday. I didn't think it was actively good, but I didn't hate it. I thought the action was very well done for a TV series and it held my attention for the hour. The one thing I wasn't really that big on is Chi McBride. He irked me a lot and provided none of the comic relief it appeared that his character was going for. If this was in a block with 24, I'd definitely watch it to pass the time until it came on. As it stands right now, I don't have anything to watch at 9 on Wed, so I could end up watching this anyway.

Holy shit this is good. Mark Valley was always that guy who was in other shows that I thought was pretty cool, like his character on Fringe, but I never knew who he was. I'm glad this is putting him on the map. And, watching this, oddly enough, feels a lot like watching Burn Notice. It's not the same concept or anything, but it carries the same level of intelligence, cool, and being fun at the same time.

At this point, I don't watch any new Fox show until it hits season 3 or so. Especially a spring season replacement based on a comic which is sort of offbeat. I've learned my lesson well.

I try to follow this with a lot of Fox's series, but it's always hard to resist the temptation in hopes that Fox wouldn't submarine the show.
TheVileOne
It's not a bad idea, but my man love for Mark Valley beckons me.
CharlieMurphy(dvdvr)
Watched the repeat of the pilot tonight and it was pretty good. I'll stick in there with it.

I googled to see what Tricia Helfer is on now and she's on something called "Warehouse 13." We don't get Syfy up here so I'm out of the loop on their new shows. Is it any good?
Eivion Thanotos
It was fun, nothing great. Tricia Helfer was only in one episode.
BankHoldup
I think I realized what I loved most about this, and it was JEH. He was really, really good in it and I hope he's in more of them, but somehow I doubt that considering he's kinda becoming a big time actor now. I don't know how he'd balance the two. Anyway, he was very Gary Oldman-esque in this, which is awesome. In fact, in a lot of his roles, he seems to channel Oldman.
TheVileOne
Haley appears to be a regular cast member of this series. The first season is only set for 13 episodes, so it probably won't be too big of a deal. Chi McBride didn't seem to have too much trouble working on movies with his TV shows.
BankHoldup
He's not getting nominated and winning major awards like JEH though, but that's awesome that he'll be a regular.
TheVileOne
Tonight's episode featuring Chi McBride as a sexy stew, so full of w1n.
ultimoDANK
Big I take umbrage at your previous assertion but cannot be arsed to respond appropriately from me. I know this won't be popular but I thought the main guy was just kinda vanilla. Chi this is my 54th show McBride is also pretty boring. Haley was pretty cool though and might keep me watching.

What a filter!

Just watched the second episode and thought that it was a lot stronger than the first episode. They seemed to do a lot more with the hour in comparison to the first episode being a little padded. A show like this is always risky nowadays when it comes to ratings but I would love it to have a good little run.

BTW, was I the only person rooting that Courtney Ford would get a reoccurring role? Brandon Routh is a lucky man.
TheVileOne
Unfortunately for the fans of Superman's hot ass wife, it looks like Emmanuelle Vaugier's female FBI agent character, Emma Barnes, will be getting the recurring role later this season.

New episode was great, but I'm annoyed that Fox is already moving it all around the schedule for the first 4 episodes. I hope this doesn't hurt it.

To be fair, they did have the State of the Union to deal with this week.
Andrew POE!

First episode I dug, then it fell off for me for whatever reason. Perhaps the fight scene on the train with the waiter just looked odd to me.

Having Jackie Earle Haley on weekly TV is awesome though....Chi McBride is tolerable this time. I may try to watch it again next week....

Caprica, however, will be what I'll be watching on Fridays....need to get Battlestar Galactica DVDs soon

This show is regularly on Wednesday though.

Yeah I get it it and all, but it's still putting the show away from its regular date and time when it's supposed to be on. The lack of consistency could put off an audience.

Tonight's outing was probably the best yet. Annoying Alias guy being slightly less annoying. Autumn Reeser looking completely different and adorable in glasses. WALTER SKINNER packing a sniper rifle. The skydiving entrance. The retinal scan. And the whole side scheme with Winston and Guererro throwing themselves to the Feds, and then ratting out Chance, to set an escape plan in motion. If they put this much cool stuff and creativity into future episodes and don't just coast on varying the setting, I don't care if this show lasts forever.

I also hope this teased major plotline of Chance's prior life isn't strung along too long. Stop sidestepping it by, say, the season finale, and just work under the reprecussions of whatever's being implied. Continually referencing it and not delivering will get real obnoxious real quick.

Bummed that we'll have to wait three weeks for new episodes. 2-hour Idol blocks, I'm assuming?
TheVileOne
If we have to wait 3 weeks this was a pretty good episode to do it for. So much cool stuff. I especially liked that he had a stun grenade set up in the lobby. This show takes nothing for granted. Production values for this episode also looked really good. I liked that they used some concept/sci-fi weaponry in this episode as well.

I really like the intrigue with Chance's past.

Fight scene was awesome with Mitch Pileggi. The show does some really creative and interesting fight scenes in tight spots.

For those who have a Mark Valley man crush like me, Human Target has been picked up for a second season! Yahoo! At least the cliffhanger from the first season will be resolved and Mark Valley will be able to pay for his divorce with Anna Torv :( .

Only 13 episodes, but with the way Fox is, got to take what you can get.

Matt Miller from Chuck will be coming to work on the show and share showrunner duties with Jonathan Steinberg.

THANK GOD!

In much worse news, Fox even though they renewed the series they've given it the Serenity/Dollhouse timeslot of Friday evening.

Oh well, better enjoy the episodes while I can. Freaking Fox, it's like they thrive on spite and disenchantment of fans.
