I gotta say, on the sliding scale of "plans thought up by Michael", spreading a bunch of false rumors to throw people off the trail of a true one isn't THAT bad.
Victator Deluxe
Yeah thats the best idea Micheal ever had.

Apparently Adult Swim is now showing the original Office. I caught an episode last night.

I'm really excited to see the UK Office on [as], I've never seen it before and am really interested to see how it stands up to a red-blooded American like myself after being a huge fan of the US version for so long.

I don't know if they did this at all last year, but some deleted scenes are up on NBC.com for this week's ep

The season premiere wasn't that great of an episode. I noticed that The Office really started going downhill at the season four mark and kind of stopped being laugh out loud funny like it used to be. The first three seasons were just great but season four was when it started to get disappointing a bit. I mean, I still enjoy the show but just not as good as it used to be. Interested in seeing how long they hold the wedding off though and if they're even going to do it in this season. Probably going to be the season finale actually.

Oh hmmm. I don't really like to read summaries for new episodes; I like to watch and everything be new to me when I see it but okay, now I know. Looking forward to that episode then.
Nathan Davis
It does seem like some of the buzz and fire of this show is dying out. I don't know if that's just because the new season is starting and people are busy with other shows on Thursday nights. I don't know if that's because most fans have hit the wall with some of the stories. I mean, the first two episodes have been rock solid, but not spectacular. There has been nice development, but not a whole lot of laughs. Personally, the show has been third among the three scripted sitcoms NBC has run the last two Thursdays.

I just hope that the network doesn't see this as a sign and make any rash decisions. I still think there is a lot of great stuff left in the setting of Dunder Mifflin and Jim getting promoted could open up a lot of that. Looking back now, though, I think Jim & Pam being pregnant might hinder that a bit. I'd almost rather David have ended Season 5 with a Jim promotion based on Michael's skit at the picnic, rather than Pam's pregnancy. I rather watch Pam struggle to be on par with the rest of the sales staff than what we're going to see. And I LIKE what we're going to see. It's just I don't like it as much. I'm rambling.
MGFanJay
Toby and Dwight on patrol = AWESOME! Jim getting promoted was cool too, and I liked how he was believably pissed at Michael for selling him out...and then being a pussy.
KingMuta
I thought this week's episode was better than last week's episode. I loved the beginning where Michael called in Oscar and asked him what to expect, LOL. That was gold I think. Dwight and Toby on patrol was great stuff as well. Last week's episode was pretty weak compared to this week's episode. I am curious to see how Jim's promotion turns out and whatnot. Should be an interesting season.

Season six is doing roughly the same in the ratings as season five. This show has never set the world on fire with ratings, but it's on a very competitive night and it does well in the 18-49 demo that is all important. I think NBC will milk this show for all it's worth for a long time.

This episode was really, really funny. The opening with Michael and Oscar was great, and Michael being a slimy little worm and trying to screw over Jim, only to screw himself over in the end, was perfect.
Stuttsy
Loved this episode. The Toby/Dwight pairing was incredible and I would love to see them revisit it. Loved the cold open. I wasn't crazy about Michael's wacky screw-up being the main subject of two straight episodes but I liked most of what they did. Definitely enjoyed the episode.

Oh man, when Toby yelled "Hey asshole!" to what he thought was Darrel.............that instantly because a Toby classic for me. I had to pause the DVR because it cracked me up so much. Then I start playing it again, only to have to stop it again when Dwight drove into the trash cans.

I also loved the re-visiting of Toby's jealousy/venom towards Jim as Michael read the performance reports. Of course also awesome was Michael back-pedaling later, saying that Toby had a drug problem.

So many things about this episode fired on all cylinders for me.

Michael bringing up Toby's drug problem from last year's episode was fucking hilarious. And, Jim calling out Michael and the disappointment you could see on Jim's face is why I love this show so much. Amidst all the clowning and everything else, the writers still find a way to have real and human moments.
CM FUNK
I just watched the season premier and I thought the funniest moment was with the interns at the end when the kid who all episode I'm thinking looks exactly like Matt Damon reveals that Michael came up with 'Alan Thicke' as his nickname :D

Would like to point out that the new :30 commercials airing for The Office in syndication on TBS are pretty great.

One has the cast all taking turns singing/humming different notes from The Office theme (except Andy, who plays it on banjo rather than sing) and the other has the cast all speculating on what TBS stands for. Meredith guesses "the back seat," Kevin guesses "turkey bacon sandwich," and then Creed steals the whole thing with an awesome Creed line:

I love when you can tell a show has come into major syndication rights (The Office's 100th episode was the end of last season). I'm seeing it now on 2-3 channels. It beats the heck out of Two and a Half Men which used to have those spots locally.

Wow, I didn't even think of that. "Spends too much time at reception."

But still, that also might have been a good moment for Jim to realize that all his goofing off had finally cost him. Of course, I shouldn't talk, considering where I'm posting from at the moment...
Nathan Davis
I'll say it again: I'll be very happy when the wedding is over. I love Jim & Pam and I love that this is a story that's been built for over 5 years. I just always get the feeling that it's this looming thing in the background until it's done. I'm sure I'll feel the same with the pregnancy.

I wasn't a big fan of tonight's episode. Aren't there jobs in real life where not everyone will get a raise? If so, I would've love Jim to point out that some of them should feel lucky that they have a job, especially at that branch that should've closed three years ago. At the least, I wanted him to put Oscar and/or Angela in their place. He's had the co-Regional Manager job for like a week, and they're talking back to him in front of the rest of the office? Jim, man up.

I do like adding the second glass office on the other side. I was wondering what they would do with Jim and the promotion. I think it's better than having Michael and Jim share Michael's office. I liked watching Michael shuffling from his office to Jim's.
The Great ML
My wife and I kept looking at this and shaking our heads...why in the hell would they publicly talk about salary/wages in front of everyone as a group? That kind of crap is confidential, one-on-one...some/most places is grounds for immediate termination, and here you have the boss(es) doing it so nonchalantly.
Nathan Davis
On top of that, can anybody explain what Jim was thinking by saying "maybe we should discuss more options" and then walking out there and just telling everyone? They established that he was trying to make smart decisions (annoying Michael in the process) and then destroyed it in order for everyone else to get mad at him. And again, Jim screwing up there is another cliche on a night where the NBC sitcoms were filled with them.

I would've rather had Michael blabbed about the raises, as it fits him more.
DiggetyDog46
I don't know, Jim was getting frustrated, and Michael egged him on, so I can see him reacting poorly and telling everyone like that. Jim has no management experience, so he'll make stupid mistakes at first. I also understand the other folks not respecting Jim as manager, as he was just one of them only a week ago. That division is going to take longer to become established.

I like Creed, seemingly not as much as everyone else, but this might have been my favorite bit of his ever.

Creed: "Hey, how come we've never..."
Meredith: "We have."

Overall, I laughed pretty hard at this episode.

Yeah, this episode annoyed me. Rather than finding it funny that Jim may be in over his head, I was instead thinking about what a bunch of whiny bitches the rest of the staff is. Especially considering how scared some of them have been about losing their jobs in previous episodes. Now they suddenly have a sense of entitlement over getting a raise?

Not to mention, considering we're living in an economy where the vast majority of people aren't getting raises of any kind this year (myself included), this episode seemed really out-of-touch with reality.

Nathan Davis
You know, I didn't think about it until sydney's post, but yeah, this is quite the change for a show that spent the first two seasons and into the third with a looming downsizing storyline. I do understand that some people in real life will never be happy, but what disturbed me is that Jim just sorta rolled over. He even tried to revert to "old, funny Jim". I also wasn't a fan of Pam realizing that Jim wasn't considering her for a raise. I mean, she just got back in that job. She deserves a raise for leaving and coming back? She got it: it's called her salary.

Now, I did enjoy Michael's moment at the end when he realized that finally there will be someone else to share the frustrations of the job with. That was a cool thing. Also, I liked the pie chart.

NBC put up the pie chart for a better view:

Jonny Law
Keep in mind how the rest of the office flipped out last season when Jim suggested having one birthday party per month, instead of a party for each person's birthday. It's not that surprising they got upset about no raises, especially in light of the fact Jim presumably just got one and now they don't.

Dwight's burgeoning coup attempt is going to be amazing to watch.
Nathan Davis
Re: Dwight's uprising

I don't see it being addressed much more than last night. It seemed fairly obvious that no one else is going to stick their neck out enough. They'll openly bitch, but they won't do anything to change things. And that's fine with me.

I thought the talking head with like six people was hilarious.

Other than that, alright episode.
Zimbra
I thought Michael giving Jim the coffee mug (filled with gin) was a really nice moment. The Pam stuff was alright, especially the bit with Ryan at the end. Pam getting excited about something and immediately realizing how stupid it is will always work with me.
MGFanJay
I LOVED THIS EPISODE! So much so that it sees the return of not only Screens~! (well, a screen) but also Quotes~! The cold open with Dwight running back and forth with his form ruled, but was capped off with his $18,000 CHALLENGE FOR THE TITLE! We need to see he and Mose engage in some form of grappling battle on Schrute Farms one of these days. Pam being worried about money was pretty interesting, Oscar was awesome, Creed and Meredith's quick scene was amusing. I like that Jim found out first-hand how hard Michael's job could be. It seems like he has a lot more respect for him now after this ordeal, and I look forward to seeing how that pans out in the future. I also look forward to seeing more of Erin, who is unbelievably cute. My God what a great casting choice.

I love how Jim is slowly turning into Michael.
KingMuta
This week's episode was alright but nothing all that special. I really liked the pie chart though; I laughed out loud at that. I also like the fact that they added a new little office for Jim, I didn't really want Jim and Michael to be sharing one office together or something like that. Next week's episode should be interesting though. Overall, I think this was the weakest episode of this season, so far anyways.
offspring515
I loved the fact that Jim screwed things up. It's been something of a running theme since he got the ARM position. He is smudge and arrogant at times and it comes back to bite him in the ass. I think this episode was a good way for Michael and Jim to find some common ground. Michael saw that he has someone to bond with over tough decisions. Jim saw that running things isn't as easy as he assumed it would be.

As to all of the talk of the staff bitching about raises....uh...have we all forgotten all the stuff from last season about Scranton doing really, really well right now? How they are the only branch pulling their weight despite the bad economy. In light of that I think they have every right to be upset about it. Is it realistic to have them all yelling and screaming about it? No, obviously not. But this show left realism behind pretty early on. I mean come on...Michael's outburst in episode 2, shouting out the N word while doing a Chris Rock bit, would have gotten him fired in any real office setting in America.
Manos99
"What does a bean mean?!"

I don't think i've ever laughed as hard at The Office as when Michael runs into Jim's, um, office and you can hear Kevin shout this as he closes the door. Really funny call back.

And I love how office-centered the season has been so far.

Victator Deluxe
I never got why after all the complaining he did not do the everybody gets a raise but smaller than the previous year. I still enjoyed the episode.

Of course Dwight has the three moons shirt.

I almost choked to death on my beer when Dwight kicked Isabella in the face.

Michael: "I like moms. Soccer moms, hockey moms, any kind of mom."

Pam: "Not my mom."

Michael: "Too late, Pam."

I have no idea how I feel about this episode. A lot of really broad goofy stuff (and I do mean a LOT), but I loved the Andy/Erin stuff, and Jim's plan A got me. It freaking got me.
Nathan Davis
This episode reminded me of why I love this show. Funny, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at the same time.
BankHoldup
As someone who just got married a few months ago, and is now expecting their first child with their wife, I totally know what the writers were doing here. Sometimes, you really do just want to run off and have someone marry you, away from your family.
offspring515
The first half was fantastic stuff (outside of the disgusting cold open), the second half was pretty pedestrian and a little boring.
Nathan Davis
This was also the first time they've addressed Andy & Erin and they did it in a big way. Part of me was wondering if they were going to rehash the Phyllis finish of Season 4 when Kevin was talking to the camera and he was going to walk in on someone in the ice/vending area. In a way they did, but now we'll get fallout to Michael hooking up with Mrs. Beesly.
Hollinger.
Michael becoming Pam's stepdad/Jim's father in law is an incredible idea.

Jim and Pam on the boat is going to be a hard moment to top this season, and I thought it was really weird that it would air now and not be a season ender. But it was a really awesome sequence.

This was also the first episode where the Andy-Erin dynamic began to interest me. If they can keep Andy a real human being and not a sitcom character, this could end up being a really sweet plotline. (And FWIW, not sure if Erin was meant to show as much as she did during her little dance down the aisle.)

I really enjoyed most of tonight's episode. The vomiting cold open was really weak and so un-Office-like. Kinda sad to see the show recycle a bit from a mid 90's SNL sketch.

And the "horny old mom" bit has been done to death, I really hope there is a fresh pay-off to Michael sleeping with Pam's mom.

I don't know. Having everyone vomit was pretty cheap, but the setup with Dwight and Pam having a battle of wills felt Office-like to me.

I enjoyed pretty much the whole episode, although I thought the lack of any kind of tension made it drag a little bit. But it was a fitting payoff to four year storyline, and all the characters got to do a little something.

Timing-wise Pam said she was five months pregnant, which should put the baby episode in February sweeps. So I wonder what they'll end the season with.
