That episode really needed to be an hour long. There was so much going on it felt like we only got a half dose of everyone, but I guess the point was to set the wheels in motion for next years developments.

My favorite part of the whole episode was Dwight going crazy and kicking the ball because Jim/Pam left then calmly saying "Oh, I'll get it".

Um, that was part of his plan to stall...

Yeah, I know what it was for. The delivery of it was hilarious, though.

Not caring much for this episode doesn't mean someone should be forced to watch King of Queens reruns. There's really no good reason that anyone should have to watch King of Queens reruns.

It was a lackluster episode and compared to previous season finales it felt like a letdown. Maybe it was because it was only a half hour show, maybe because it had to follow the epic "Michael Scott Paper Company" story, maybe it was just a little flat. Season five was a huge rebound from the largely terrible season four and I like the places the finale is taking us...Michael continuing his quest to be a mature adult (and still screwing something major up along the way), Dwight and Angela getting back together (yeah, been there done that but I liked their characters together), The Andy/Erin thing, and of course the next step for Jim and Pam. The episode itself wasn't very good though. Oh well, here's looking forward to next year.

The reason Holly and Michael can't be together is because they are too much alike. Holly is a female Michael, so it can't work. Either that or they are long lost siblings. Its obvious Pam was lying about the Dear Michael thing, so I think it just reinforces why Michael and Holly can't be together and NEVER will be together.

Maybe its just me but I think at this point, barring some unforeseen circumstance

And I know the pregnancy bit is predictable, but fuck it I still liked it a lot. I could go back and watch at least seasons 2 and 3 and then go to this point and it's been really quite a story between them. Sure, some people think there should be more flaws between the two, but overall the Jim/Pam story has really been well-done. I'm looking forward to next season in terms of the wedding and the childbirth.
Stuttsy
Well yeah, I agree with it being a Jim & Pam version 2.0 kinda deal, I was just referring to waiting longer for the pay off.
Nathan Davis
I hate to be that guy but I was hoping someone could help me. I wanted a gif from Cafe Disco. It would be of the part where Michael looks at the camera, points and says "It's CAFE DIS-CO!", immediately followed by Dwight hitting him in the head.

Thanks if it happens.

This is the first season where I am actually waffling about buying the Dvds. Man. I loved the Charles story arc, but outside of that and a couple of the early eps like Crime Aid...this season really wasn't up to standards.

By the Charles story arc, do you mean the Michael, Pam and Ryan start their own paper company and make DM sweat storyline? Was a pretty huge deal for me :)
Mike Rose
The first ep being Charles 1st appearance and the last in the arc being where Michael cuts him off and throws him out of the office after they get their jobs back. I'm not counting the lackluster season finale of course.... That was an incredible arc of eps. That being said, this season just wasn't up to snuff and while I will probably buy the DVD, I may not because of the lack of quality eps.
offspring515
Season five CRUSHED season four. Just fucking crushed it. It was probably a step below season 3. Lots of quality episodes and nothing close to as bad as Survivor Man, Did I Stutter or Job Fair. I can't wait until this DVD is out.
pwghack
Wait a second, how could somebody not like Survivorman?
Stuttsy
I hated Survivorman. I hated a few season four eps actually.
RandomAct
For me, Season 4 is always redeemed by Jim and Pam staying the night at Schrute Farms.
JobGuyMatt
I don't understand why Ryan was hired back when Michael asked for their jobs back in the Michael Scott paper company buyout. All David Wallace said was "Ryan cost this company thousands of dollars," in reference to Ryan's embezzling and going to jail. I just think that Wallace would have made a bigger deal about not wanting Ryan back, but it's cool anyway because I love Ryans douchey personality. His scenes are always funny like his mom dropping him off at work and when Jim broke his balls about his court ordered community service.

Also, I'm watching older episodes and Ryan and Kelly are the anti-Jim/Pam. I hope season six has a Jan comeback and not a Holly comeback because Michael is way more funny when he's with a girl that's no good for him.

Crushed? Season 4 had Dinner Party which was my personal favorite episode of that season. Seaon 5 doesn't have anything that comes that close. If Survivorman is your benchmark for bad eps, what's your opinion of Baby Shower? That episode along with the horrible trip to Nashua are 2 of the worst eps in the history of the show.

I don't want to get into list mania, but here's my top 5 eps:
Dundies (Season 2)
<g-a-y>Witch Hunt (Season 3)
Dinner Party (Season 4)
The Injury (Season 2)
The Job (Season 3)
offspring515
I've only seen the season 5 episodes once, so picking out individual ones is kind of tough. I just enjoyed season five overall. There were some bad episodes, no doubt about it. I remember the Blood Drive episode being pretty bland. The finale was also lackluster.

Season four has The Deposition and Dinner Party and Goodbye Toby, three great episodes. There are a few that are ok (Night Out, Chair Model, Dunder Mifflin Infinity). I don't care too much for the rest. There are good moments in most episodes but a lot of crap too.

Survivor Man seems to be an episode that people either love or hate. My Dad loves the Office too and he was rolling on the floor during it. I thought it was horrible. Just my opinion though.
Mike Rose
Well, my problem with Season 5 and honestly, Season 5 Office is better than most other comedies on TV, is that outside of the already established Charles story arc, it seems that most of the rest of season 5 occupied itself either hot-shotting certain storylines (Jan's Kid) or dragging other storylines waaaaaay to long (JAM and the Love Triangle between Andy/Dwight and Angela.)

We all win.

Getting to the end of watching Season 5 on DVD, and I'll admit, watching the season in marathon form does point out that the early to mid part of the season was tolerable, but not a lot more than that. It gets to around the "Stress Relief" episode and it picks up and the last 10-12 episodes are rock solid.

I do think while there weren't as many great one-liners as in the past, this season was fulfilling for someone who's seen every episode. There were some long term callbacks that I loved. Plus, anything with Erin at the end of the season is just too cute.
Robert
Surprised there isn't more excitement for the new season. The first episode is Thursday:

The new summer interns cause gossip to fly. Andy questions his heterosexuality.

Also I read somewhere they are picking up with Pam 4 months into her pregnancy and the wedding approaching rapidly since they want to get married before having the kid.

I'm definitely excited because there are still lots of story ideas out there for them to pursue, especially with the undercard. One of the great things about the DVDs is the deleted scenes that really flesh out those storylines and characters that only get very brief moments to shine in the actual episodes. For example, there are a couple of good deleted scenes between Andy and Erin that I think show if they choose to really pursue that relationship as a story in Season 6, it'll be worth it.

Also, apparently, according to the commentary on the final episode of Season 5, Dwight's friend Rolf will be a recurring character this year. So I'm guessing we'll see more of Dwight opening up outside of Dunder Mifflin, as well as a possible reconnection between him and Angela. The latter of that seems to be indicated by a talking head from Angela after their brief nod in the episode where she starts gushing about Dwight's standing up for her against Rolf's rant.
Hollinger.
I had no idea that Erin was the chick from the Blowjob Girl video.
MGFanJay
As much as I loved S5 during its first run, I'm loving it even more thanks to the DVD set. The deleted scenes are among my favorite yet - Surplus has some AMAZING Dwight ones with Jim staring in amazement at the foolishness he spouts off. Expect this little image to pop up after many an Impact review when I question booking decisions, the meaning of life, and just why I'm watching the show to begin with. -

There are also some great ones for Prince Family Paper that are way better than anything in the episode itself. One where Angela reveals that she was a HUGE Pam Anderson fan and breaks into tears after saying that she "lost her way on the lifeguard show". One with Michael saying that business is a dog-eat-dog world, but that he's a shark who eats doggie dogs, and another where he says that an iron fist is great for business, but not for making love to a woman with your hand - "no more fisting for me". This bit from them also rules -

Now that should've been included in the episode. There are a lot of times when I wish they would make the Season DVDs an "Unedited Cut" thing where they add all of the deleted scenes into the episode where they would've gone. They sometimes would make boring episodes tremendous. It's one of the best things about the DVD sets.
Nathan
Absolutely. I really didn't like season four much, but picked up the DVD. The deleted scenes made every episode worthwhile.
offspring515
My wife and I are powering through season 5, hoping to make it through everything by Thursday...but so far my favorite deleted scene was Dwight talking to Phyllis about he and Angela going to the Anthracite Museum together. "We acted like it was our first time to get all the extra knowledge and explanations...but they saw right through us...because we kept correcting them when they'd make mistakes."

Just so totally in line with his character to think of that as a great date.

I am tempted on many a lonely Wednesday night to re-edit the episodes myself with the deleted scenes as my own home brew. But I'm a very lazy man. Too lazy to even see if some even more crazy Office fan has already done so.

I looked around and couldn't find anyone who had done so. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!?!?!?~

I enjoyed Parks a lot more than The Office tonight...I hope I'm not in the minority.
Nathan Davis
I agree. The Office was the worst of the three shows I saw tonight. I honestly thought Community was the best and a lot better than I figured it would be. The Office was really toned down for a season premiere, and I think the deleted scenes will make it overall better than what we saw.

Oh well, the office knows Jim & Pam are pregnant. We can now get on the road to the wedding, get through that, and get on with our lives.

Same. I thought The Office had some heart, but Parks delivered more laughs. The Office had the line of the night when Toby goes, "I have a daughter...how could I be a virgin?!"
Nathan Davis
I'll counter with Parks & Rec's: "She's Leslie Knope and she's here to recruit YOU!"

Didn't watch the other two but Community IS on the DVR to watch later. I loved the Office and pretty much felt "this is more like it" when compared to some of the other episodes from S4 and S5 that took them out of the office too much. I thought Ed Helms was money the entire episode, jumping through the refrigerator box, seeking answers as to whether or not he was manly beyond my wildest expectations, etc. Loved Creed's talking head; thought the Jim/Pam stuff was pretty cute and liked that Michael wasn't COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT just really silly. To me, it felt more in tone with the earlier seasons.
sydneybrown

The Office was good, not a fan of making Stanley into a creep, though I guess it's good at least ONE Office member can find love outside of the building. Also not a fan of what looks like the further dumbing down of Andy.

Kevin was the highlight for me, though quoting him wouldn't do it justice.

BTW, I know I'm thinking too much about things, but it always irks me in pseudo-documentary shows like these when character A lets character B in on a secret and swears them to not tell....when the "film crew" is RIGHT THERE shooting it.

Didn't watch Parks, thought Community had some potential. I didn't think it was hilarious, but it had enough good lines that I'll probably add it to the DVR for a few episodes. I enjoyed the Dean far more than anybody in the actual study group though.
Stuttsy
I wouldn't necessarily say Stanley is a creep. Definitely a fucked up thing to do but it DOES happen. I don't know that a single moral indiscretion should necessarily define anyone's entire character, real person or fictional person.

Stanley isn't a bad guy, it was just a weird plotline that made him a lot less endearing to me, I guess. And while we're on the subject, I'll plead ignorance because I was in and out at the end: Who's car was that that Stanley was destroying?
Nathan Davis
Michael's
Nathan
Yeah Parks was full of win last night. "I'm glad you got a job... and learned some new words." There wasn't enough Dwight on The Office, though I was excited that Creed got one of his short talking heads so early in the season since he tends to get neglected.

Dug all three shows.
MGFanJay
STANLEY SMASH! ruled, and I liked Jim and Pam being willing to potentially ruin their lives at work in order to spare someone else - and then trying to hard to get Michael to just stop talking...and he just wouldn't...and then he called Terri "Cynthia". God that part ruled.
Nathan Davis
I did like they continued the trend of opening up a season with Jim & Pam trying to keep a secret about themselves from the rest of the office, though I concede that they didn't get engaged until the end of the first episode last year and it wasn't until the second episode that the rest found it out.

It's like, why do you even try anymore? It's going to get out.

I also loved the Erin & Kelly stuff last night, especially when Erin said she was glad Kelly was eating again. And then Kelly takes a bite of the cake and says "I know, right!" or something along those lines.
codegreen817
Watching now on Hulu. So much to love, even if the insanity is kind of downplayed (except for the "action" opener, which was quite funny if a bit dragged out, as well as Stanley's very understandable tantrum at the end).

Dwight: "See those files? Go put them in random order, and then come back to me for another assignment regarding their order."

Andy questioning his sexuality and then asking Oscar about it. And then O being upset because it's not his job to comfort insecure heterosexuals. "For the record, I prefer women. but off the record, I'm kinda confused. The evidence is sort of stacked against me."

Angela: "You know, a baby conceived out of wedlock is still a bastard. Want me to say it again?"

Crap, I would quote it all. Stanley's relief at the end was wonderful.

"That is the inside of your vagina."

All in all, an understated and relatively mellow but nice beginning to the season.
Mike Rose
Honestly, some decent lines last night, but nothing earth shattering. This was an ep on the level of Baby Shower from last year...some yuks, but like the Anne Geddes allusion from Baby Shower, there are just plot items that don't fit.

I would give the ep a 3/5 instead of the usual 4-5/5
offspring515
I'd give a Dwight Schrute "Good not great" rating.

It was a decent episode and I thought Ed Helms was great in it. The whole Michael Scott/Terri phone call at the end was cringeworthy stuff at its best too. Overall though it felt a little meandering.
Nathan
For some reason I always enjoy The Office more when re-watching. I seem to miss a lot of stuff on first airing. I didn't catch the "I'm so glad your eating again" exchange last night or some of Dwight's better moments.
