When I started hating the show was when Meredith survived the car accident. If she died, we would've been saved from her absolute awfulness in every capacity.

You think Michael being responsible for the death of a regular character would have been a positive for the show? Seriously?
Robert
Why do you guys even bother with Kevx301? It's obvious he is trolling. I have a buddy who wants to write for TV one day and if you ask him something like "what would you do differently" about a show - he NEVER shuts up. I challenged Kevx301 to do that 2 weeks ago and he blew it off. Same thing he's doing here. He's just fucking around and everyone should ignore him.

Why are we egging on Kevx? I'm sick of his dumbass opinions cluttering every TV thread I like on this board.
Sadly, the "Ignore" option doesn't work when everyone quotes him.

Uh-huh. And how many of his ideas have YOU stolen and sold as your own?

Very good finale - after some shaky stuff with the post-strike shows, this one was pretty much a home run. Jan coming back pregnant wasn't too shocking, but I was expecting the father to turn out to be Hunter. Still, there's plenty of room for comedy with her and Michael attempting to take care of a child. Well, disastrous comedy.

The bit with Holly thinking that Kevin was mentally challenged was funny, and I await Andy's proposal blowing up on him. I don't think Pam will hold Jim's lack of proposal against him - she expressed disappointment soon after, and I expect the proposal to occur once her three months in NY are up (if we see them), or if they have that happen off-screen over the summer, I can see the proposal opening up the season.
Brian Kenny
I concur with everyone, an awesome episode. I got a good laugh at a couple of small jokes that you might have missed if you weren't paying attention. The first was Dwight telling Michael that his give to Toby was "uncalled for". It was funny because they set the joke up earlier when Michael told Dwight that he needs to stop agreeing with him on everything. The other one was Creed calling Ryan, "The Temp" when he saw the video on youtube. It was further evidence of Creed being totally oblivious to everything at Dunder Mifflin.

I already addressed that a few pages ago. Anytime I talk about writing people get upset for no reason so I'm trying not to talk about it. I just want to talk about the shows, but there are still posters who have nothing better to do than bring it up.

No, I'm not trolling. It is possible for people to not like The Office. About 295 million Americans don't watch it.

That was one of those moments where I can't understand how they were ever able to film a usable version without breaking up, it was so funny...with Dwight rushing to blurt out as much damaging information as possible while Michael was rushing to close the door...that Steve Carrell had to finish the scene without a cut and go back to the table, etc...that must have been tough and I bet there are some great outtakes.

I also loved Michael's diverted "that's what she said" on the ferris wheel...he was trying so hard...so very hard and long...

I don't put much into what you say in this thread, because you really bring nothing to the table, but this just makes no sense. You're right, 295 million do not watch the Office, because they don't like it. You obviously do not like this show, so WHY do you watch it? Just to rag on it? Do you REALLY not have anything better to do than watch a show you do not like, just so you can critique it? I'm not even gonna say go hang out with friends or do something productive, just don't watch the show if you don't like it. It's not that hard.

...and once again, the DVDVR message board gets it right (and gets it) on their reaction to the Office finale, and the Television Without Pity message board does, well, not. I don't know what's funnier: the one hour show itself, or reading all these Pam/Jim obsessives with their panties in a wad. (Well, actually, the show's much funnier, but still going through those boards is a hoot.)

I loved that most of their satisfaction from the finale would have been derived from a proposal, and when that wasn't delivered, they shit over the whole episode. One poster called them out on that as them being silly, and their post was immediately deleted, and everyone who quoted them had their comments modified. That place is nutty.

To use a TWOP hausfrau term, I am a huge Jam-shipper, but I actually marked out when Andy took the stage. Because it was hilarious, and such a Nard-dog thing to do after him being invisible the rest of the episode. Honestly, what fun would it have been for Jim to make the perfect proposal and Pam to accept? Someone on some other board (which was quoted on TWOP) that I've never even read sort of nailed things. We have already seen all elements of the proposal, they have just been dispersed throughout the season. We saw the ring, Jim saying he will propose, Pam excited at the prospect, Jim on one knee, etc. Look, and you will find everything you are looking for. Maybe for their sake, that awesome guy on YouTube who does those amazing chopped and screwed video trailers (like the "Jim is dead" one) will make this happen for the hausfrau crowd.
Dooley
I liked the episode, but I'm not sure I'd go as far with the praise as a lot are. I guess I just wasn't digging the Holly character and the "Jan is pregnant" deal as much as some. Holly treating Kevin like he was retarded was funny, but with Michael it just seemed to me like it was the same "personality mirroring" that Andy did in season 3. As for Jan's thing....I just didn't like it. I didn't laugh and don't care where it's going.

As for Dwight and Angela, come on now....did anyone really think they weren't going to get back together? Andy's proposal was hilarious, but between Angela's half-acceptance and Dwight's look I thought it was pretty evident what was going to go down. Maybe they pulled the trigger on it faster than some people expected, but it's not like it was a *swerve* out of left field or anything.

But overall a lot of things made me laugh and I'm not upset that the Pam/Jim proposal didn't happen because really, where would you go from there? There's too much life left in the series for them to live happily ever after. I got a kick out of a lot of things, but overall I felt the opposite of how I usually feel about an Office episode. That is to say I usually finish the 1/2 hour and think they could have/should have gone longer, but after the hour was over I thought they could have trimmed it down and not lost anything.
CodySave
I'm surprised no one has touched on the fact that Pam and Jim could possibly be in New York together - Pam in design school and Jim taking over Ryan's job.

Which worries me - could the proposed Office spinoff debuting next January be a Jim/Pam show? Them taken out of The Office and put in their own show would really hurt both them and The Office, in my opinion.

I'm very curious to learn what the spinoff will be about, considering even the producers don't have a set idea yet.
PaulS
I think that Jenna Fischer confirmed that she wouldn't be in the spinoff show.

Wow, what a great finale. I was in DC for work Wed-Frid and Hulu wouldn't load fast enough of my aircard to watch it Friday, so I had to sufferingly wait until this morning to watch it.

I skimmed through the last few pages, and I can definately see both sides of people's opinions. I never really post on here when I have anything negative to say, and I guess I am just a positive person in general. I think I've said this before, but I pretty much like every episode of The Office, 30 Rock, Scrubs, etc that I see. Anywho, on to what I loved this week..

Creed referring to Ryan as the temp.. still.
Mister.. Andrew.. Bernard.
Jim yelling at Ryan over VM. I can relate to that more than anything else...
Kevin acting like he has over the past 4 seasons and someone thinking he is "slow in the brain".. and it totally worked.
Andy pulling the mic cord from the keyboard.
Angela/Dwight being caught getting biz.. and Angela still gave Phylis the same look she always gives her.

The whole thing about Jim and Pam made a lot of sense to me. Tho I haven't proposed yet, it's coming soon, I believe that I will have those nerves that Jim has before it happens.. and will probably take any type of distraction way too literal and that could possibly delay popping the big question. Also, with Pam sorta of moaping about Jim not proposing, I think that is realistic. Jim told her that when he does in fact propose, it will "kick her ass".. and what better place/time/moment Toby's party was.

Also, not to be an asshole, because I really don't know/remember and don't feel like digging through the million posts this threat has, but is Kevx301 is TV writer or a journalist? I sorta see people reacting like he is, and am just curious. I guess if he is, his opinion on everything is interesting. Sorry if this has been asked/explained 1000 times already..

Lastly, the season premiere in September is less time away than the midseason strike was. So that doesn't really seem like too long, right?

Dave

While in High School I wrote for The Daily Record, a county-wide newspaper here in New Jersey. I mostly did movie reviews, but I did some other articles as well. To give you a timeline of this board, I disagreed with the WGA strike and said it was a career I'd love to be a part of, but realized it might be unrealistic. So now anytime I make a post people ask me to say what I'd change about the show, failing to do the same if someone else criticizes the show, when if anything I'm more qualified to do it without explaining how I would modify things.

Back to some of the recent points made, I definitely hope Creed is in the spinoff. He is incredibly underutilized on the show and should get a lot more screen time and lines.

I don't think Jim and Pam will be in New York together. While they've ventured out of The Office a lot recently, I can't see them creating an entire different secondary location. It would just go so far off from what the show is.

Another thing about the Jim and Pam thing is that it is starting to resemble Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother. They are both into art and it slowly becomes more and more of a problem. Granted NY and California are different, but I could see this creating a problem in the relationship the way it did on How I Met Your Mother.

I can assure, my right testicle or more qualified to explain how tv shows should work than you. The fact that you've attempted to justify your opinions on this board with "I've got a more efficient script writing technique" and "I wrote for a county wide newspaper in high school" are completely laughable. I like that after this, you decided to add this fantastic banter...

You're prediction that Pam getting into art school will harm the relationship shows that you have an eye for writing/survey of film that even the most simple of foreshadowing couldn't ravel. You managed to sugar coat this buffet of obvious with "Hey, remember when they did that on How I Met Your Mother also?"

PS - Imagine my surprise to see you've invoked the exact same response over in the Fighting section when you leapt head first into several idiotic statements (see the CBS show thread, it's a jewel). Seems to me like Ryan going to jail could play a part in that. Sort of a getting out of jail/finding self kind of thing that would have the potential to be extremely different from The Office.

Hey now, I can see how both Jim and Pam liking art can cause their relationship to crumble. Jim's love for surrealism and the work of Henri Rousseau and Max Ernst would be in direct conflict with Pam's enjoyment of post-impressionism and her infatuation with Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. This causes Jim to fly back into the arms of Karen due to her avid collection of all things Jean Arp. All the while Michael gains critical acclaim for his "primitivism" art while being discovered doodling on a place mat at country kitchen. He then garners comparisons to Paul Klee and crumbles under the pressure of success and drugs. I can see that happening.

The thing about the spinoff that is going to be interesting is that I think there are really no characters aside from Michael, Jim & Pam (together) and Dwight, that could carry a show long term. Yeah, maybe people would tune into a Toby spinoff for the first 4-5 episodes, but I don't think it'll stay strong.

So we'll have to see. Maybe it's about Jan. Maybe it's about Toby. Maybe something or someone else that is introduced during the fall, since the spinoff is supposed to be in February after the Super Bowl.

Wasn't it originally meant for Dwight? I think that could work, so long as he has the right people to play off of.

There isn't much information on the spinoff yet, and I'm guessing not too much has been completely nailed down at this point. TV Guide said, however, that they're looking for a female name to be in the show as their Michael Scott. The name that's been tossed around the most, according to TV Guide, is Amanda Peet. At one point Lauren Graham was also being considered. And at least one character (Toby? Andy if Dwight and Angela get back together for good?) from the current show will be on it. That's all the information I've seen.

I almost wish they would just do The Warehouse so we get more Darryl, and it can still overlap with the original show.
Michrome
This finale was awesome. Jim/Dwight prank, plenty of Michael and Toby, Ryan goes down...awesome.

I really hope they give Kelly more of a role again next year. I was just watching the episode where she begs Jim to find out if Ryan likes her, it was hilarious. The possibilities with Dwight and Angela carrying on a secret affair are numerous and awesome.

If Kevin's voice-over and the accompanying montage is not good enough to work as the opening to a new spin-off, then television has passed me by:

I agree. The Warehouse would be awesome as the spin-off. And Andy somehow getting fired or something, having to take a job in the warehouse would be gold.
Robert
Phylis used to always be scared of Angela so that dynamic will change now that she caught Angela and Dwight. That should be really fun.

I think it'd be great if Ryan was somehow pardoned from the fraud charges (I know... stretching it) and had to start his career all over with a job in the warehouse. The Ryan/Kelly/Darryl interaction would be awesome.

That might be even better.

I'm curious what they'll do with Ryan's job, especially in light of the less-than-subtle way they've been harping on Jim being beloved by David Wallace.

Could they be promoting Jim in the season premiere, or are they gonna throw a curveball?

A Dwight spin-off would be like "Flo's Golden Rose" or "The Ropers", the character and actor work great in their setting and role but having them as the main focus is bad news.

Amy Poehler confirmed to The Associated Press that she'll be joining the planned "Office" spinoff, paving the way for her eventual exit from "Saturday Night Live" and promoting the comedian to primetime.

Speaking by phone Thursday shortly after her Emmy nomination for outstanding actress in a comedy series on "SNL," Poehler said she will join NBC's spinoff of "The Office." She's expected to star.

"I can kind of confirm that I will be working in some capacity on that show," said Poehler. "I don't really have any other details yet."

The 36-year-old Poehler has been a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" since 2001 and in recent seasons has served as a co-anchor on "Weekend Update."

Poehler, whose husband Will Arnett also received an Emmy nomination Thursday (for his guest performance on "30 Rock"), is pregnant and due this October. She plans to be part of the expanded fall schedule for "Saturday Night Live" during the election, but that what happens in the spring isn't clear.

"It's been quite a week," said Poehler of the negotiations. "I'm very excited about all the good stuff that's coming down the pike."

A spokesman for NBC said the network had no comment.
