Cute gimmick with Jake wearing the hockey mask but I have no idea why this made the set.

I thought it was OK. I also liked Jake with the mask and the finish had to be kind of crazy for its time. Who was in the Lord Humongous role? I know Sid played it at one time? Anyone?

It was interesting to see the crowd go silent after Humongous kicked out of the DDT. But Humongous was pretty bad. Roberts rules in Mid-South but this going near the bottom.

I dug this way more than I probably should have. It "only" made #97 but I'm guessing I'm going to have it higher than most people. As I said in General Thoughts, I think I liked this one just as much as the heavily-pimped Jake/Steamboat from the WWF set.

Humongous is, in fact, bad--but not incompetent. And with Jake in this time period, that's enough. I just had FUN watching this--a of the big huge unstoppable monster getting stopped by his physically overmatched but smarter opponent.

I'm with Pete here. This match was just fun to watch. Not a technical classic but Jake did a good job carrying the useless Humongous. I'm also a mark for the Cage matches.

How long was Humperdink in Mid-South? I only remember him buying the Nightmare from Eddie Gilbert and Gilbert turning face.

Humperdink took a nice little beating before Humongous even got in the cage. Nice effect with Roberts wearing the hockey mask ... keeps up the gimmick of Jake being so smart and calculating. Humongous has a look that almost makes up for his skills ... be he seems really lost in there. Interesting sidenote: as per Online World of Wrestling, Jeff Van Camp is now Director of Crime Stoppers for the Escambia County Sheriff's Office in Pensacola, Florida.

Meanwhile, I really like Jake's "missed kneelift in the corner" spot, as I have seen it several times in his past few matches. After some quick action at the beginning, this slows down to a standard cage match. Jake losing his boot and using it as a weapon is cool in this context ... not as cool when harkening back to that Legends of Wrestling debacle when he could barely keeps his boots on against Jim Neidhart. Not the greatest on this set, but it's a perfectly acceptable Cage Match.

Well into the bottom ten so far for me. Jake just couldn't carry the lumbering lummox to anything exiting, and I didn't feel any sense of drama or spectacle. Any time LH was on the offensive he looked lost beyond belief. Awful, weak strikes and I don't remember him using any power moves either to get the monster thing over. Swank outfit though, interesting to see where the Demolition look came from.

And once Nightmare threw the chair in it looked like he really should have climbed in to finish things. I guess that wasn't done in those days, even though it wouldn't have been a DQ.

I really love great workers getting good matches out of lousy opponents, so this one holds a special little place for me.

Jake's stock has really risen with me after seeing him in the WWF set and this set. His punches looked amazing, which is really saying something since there are over a dozen great punches on this set. Also really dug the missed knee in the corner, how seamlessly Jake can get himself stuck in the ropes (even though the Lord's attack while Jake was tied up left something to be desired), and how Jake would just ram his face unprotected into the cage. Wonderful stuff.

Humperdink's bump off the punch was reallllly great looking, as was his jogging suit.

The DDT false finish was a good one, and the DDT on the chair was ultra nasty.

Really dug this one.

Man, Boesch sure has lost his mind at this point. “Humongous, the name certainly suits him. Even if I’m not quite sure what it means,” Jesus that’s like something straight out of This is Spinal Tap. Tremendous.

Humongous is like a poor man’s Kane, I guess. As far as poor man’s Kane vs. babyface Jake Roberts goes I guess this is about what I would have expected, but this isn’t going to place very well for me. Probably somewhere very near the bottom.

I LOVED this match. If I was sitting at home as a teen on a 1986 Saturday night all stoned and flipping channels and I came across this? I'd have been sucked in like crazy.

This won't be at the bottom of my ballot if only for Roberts eating steel cage like a champ and both of the DDTs that Humongous took.

Nearly LOL'd my socks off here because I have this at #92. One of us is nuts and it's probably more me than you. Just really enjoyed the story here. My #150 is Dick Slater vs. Butch Reed (No DQ) (12/13/85), which was the one match I really got annoyed about ("rampant stupidity").
