Ok I am still extremely tired after only four hours sleep but here is my report as best as I can give it.

The place sold out.In fact due to an oversight more tickets were sold than there were seats creating some difficulties.I am not exxagerating when I say it was a crowd close to 3000 people. This has been the biggest draw since the Parka/Mistico vs Dr Wagner Jr/Rey Bucanero main event.

The first two matches were the usual stuff, nothing to brag about. The last four matches however were what lucha libre was all about. The locals in their last three matches, including Swat Cat,Tyme Paige,Guerrerito del Futuro,Laser 2000,Mini Charlie Manson,Mascara de Jade,Aguila del America,Los Payasos, and "El Incognito"[real name changed due to the fact the guy named himself Mistico de Ciudad Juarez.Smell the lawsuit baby!!!]all gave a very good account of themselves, delivering fast paced action with lots of topes and saltos mortales. And the main event was actually better than many fans may have feared.Mil allowed fans to take still pictures of the action so he was in something of a good mood.[And yes I did get to get my picture taken with him.Still don't know if it came out though.]And I have to give big props to Canek, who still looks like the Canek I watched on tv in Mexico during my oh so wasted adolesence. The guy is still as massive as ever.Rayo de Jalisco Jr even seemed a bit quicker than he has been seen in his last tv matches for CMLL.Maybe the large crowd got to the wrestlers and they decided to give it their all.Good for them.

[p.s. on this last paragraph, due to unforseen circumstances Huracan Ramirez Jr could not be present at the show]

And since the show did bring in a huge crowd there will be money left over to bring in big names for the March 11th show.Sadly Mistico could not confirm for this show. However if there are no scheduling conflicts for this date the lucha libre main event for the date of March 11th 2007 at the Congress Theater will be.................................wait for it.....................................................
......................Hijo del Santo and La Parka vs Blue Demon Jr and Shocker. Now that is going to be HUGE!!!!

Good, a huge crowd always saves the day and make the show much more enjoyable, it was really the Incognito who worked in AAA for a while? The Santito/Mistico was not a huge draw?

Chui

Edit: And a 2500-3000 draw is impressive considering the snow storm (is called that way?) in Chicago, I saw that on the Bears game...

No.The Hijo del Santo/Mistico card was a disappointment.

As for this "Incognito" he billed himself as Mistico de Ciudad Juarez however the people putting the show on refused to bill him like that since they work with the CMLL Mistico. This guy was replacing Hracan Ramirez Jr.

Odd, I can understand it from Mistico as CMLL is not airing over there (well, I assume FSE and C52Mx have not the same penetration as Gala, although IIRC, Gala is not on free tv either... but no huge crowd for Santito?

Then I guess he is the same guy from AAA, he also worked over here a few months back... I think it was an improvement over Ramirez Jr, but who knows... what about the weather? The place is aconditioned for such thing?

Simply put the people didn't promote the Santo show.

The weather was cold. The theater was colder.I don't blame the maineventers for doing a fifteenminute match.[In fact a fifteen minute match is better than a thirty minute crap match. These guys are a bit older now and no point in tiring them out.We got their best and no need to complain.]

The snow wasn't that bad Sunday - it looked worse on TV than it actually was, probably not more than an inch.

A full house opposite that game completely blows my mind. I have no idea what's going on or how this works. The last time Canek was in, he did draw a full house, but that was a free show and this was not. Mil drew well last time I think but not this well. Santo did a full house the day after a blizzard the first time he appeared, but didn't do as well the second time. This very much confuses me.

I have no idea how much advertising they're doing for these shows (I don't see anything about them but on the 'net, but then they shouldn't be marketing towards people like me), so maybe that's the difference.

Cubs: I thought you had stayed to watch the NFL...

It is nearly impossible to know what is going to draw when, that's why every guy I know who had run a lucha show has ended losing his/her shirt on the process. Still, with the weather like it was (unless it suddenly cleared), the outcome is pretty impressive.

I ended up driving thru Chicago after the game ended for other reasons - probably right around time to catch the main event, now that I think about it. It was worse out where I was than in the city, from what I saw.

the advertising for the show was put up around 26th street,Near Fullerton and Pulaski,a few other key hispanic neighborhoods,on Mexican radio and some places on the north side just to cater to the few gueros who could be interested. This time though gueros compromised about only 1% of attendance.
