MTV TO BURN THROUGH THE LAST SIX EPISODES OF WRESTLING SOCIETY X STARTING WITH MARATHON NEXT WEEK
by Mike Johnson @ 1:50:00 PM on 3/6/2007

If you want to catch the remaining episodes of MTV Wrestling Society X, prepare your recorder now. MTV will run a marathon of five unaired Wrestling Society X episodes next Tuesday starting at 11 PM Eastern. The following Tuesday, WSX is scheduled for 10:30 PM, which I would assume is the series finale, featuring an exploding steel cage match.

It appears MTV are trying to run the episodes as quickly as possible, I'm guessing because they are contractually obligated. I would assume that the WSXtra online series will not return.

For those who have asked, Big Vision Entertainment will be able to shop the WSX series concept around to other potential networks, although off the top of my head I don't know what those could be. I am told that MTV would retain the rights to release the WSX episodes on DVD, since they bankrolled the tapings.

Well it is smart, because now that MTV will burn through the episodes, removes the fresh content for a new network. With so much already invested in this project, I find it hard to believe that not a single network would be interested in picking it up at bargain value. However, maybe the cost of keeping the talent is what scares off most people. I wonder who keeps the right to Matt Classic?

That could have changed today but the inside track is that everybody but the main MTV loves WSX. That would be MTV2, their on-line stuff, etc.

Look for my Matt Classic career retrospective 3-disc compilation set in the shills section next Wednesday.

I think I'd commit suicide if I watched that much shitty wrestling in one sitting.

Kevin Kleinrock was just on Legends Radio and said that WSXtra episodes 5 through 9 will be uploaded to WSX.mtv.com after the marathon next Tuesday on MTV.

Okay... I'm not a shrewd business man. My experiences in wrestling promotion, television production, and website design are non existing. With that being said, why would they put these "webisodes" out online. Unless the project is coming to an end? These shows should have been kept for new a night, or a new network. They could have been re-hashed with some of the highlights of WSX, when it makes a return. 5 Webisodes could easily been converted to 3-4 new episodes.

Like I said, I'm not some big time wrestling executive, but seems like Kleinrock or Big Vision or WSX kind of blew it on that one.

Blame MTV - they own all the footage.

And the WSXtra episodes provide continuity for the WSX episodes that will air during the marathon next week.

and isn't Matt Classic, the one thing that sems to have caught on among the hardcore wrestling fans, an internet only thing?

A Matt Classic video package aired on TV, but his matches have been online-only.

In case anyone is wondering MTV Tres is also airing WSX. It looks like it is airing some episodes tonight.

So check your TIVO.

DirecTV now carries Tres in my market. SoCal.
